Peter Sirmon ready to bring us back

By the way,
Sirmon is recruiting some of the DL talent I want...

"I really enjoyed everything," Kirven said. "The campus was amazing and the facilities were great. They are building a new facility and the one they have is unreal now. The coaches and stadium were great. I liked the academic side too. It was a good chance to meet the other recruits too."

"Coach Sirmon is a cool guy," Kirven said. "He's a younger guy and he's persistent. I like that about him. He's my kind of guy. He hits me up on Facebook daily."

Don't sleep on Doug Atkins folks. Until Haynesworth and Henderson go to the Hall of Fame I wouldn't put them in front of Atkins. Jesus, Adtkins was country strong. I could imagine if he was in the S&C program that Haynesworth and Henderson were while here. I'll go:
1) Reggie White
2) Doug Atkins
3) Henderson
4) Haynesworth

I'm not even sure if Atkins played DT or not. But I am sure that it really didn't matter. He was much like White in the sense that if you put him at DT or DE the opposition will SIMPLY BE DESTROYED!

We haven't had many DTs that would start over Henderson and Haynesworyh

Yes! Please MHF tell me one DL that has been in Knoxville (UT player or opponant's player) that would start in front of Al and John? Maybe Reggie White, but I'm not sure how much better he was than them? I think we are going to be fine with the group we have and the recruits this staff will bring in! Find something else to worry about! Go Vols!

I'm in no way trying to take anything away from Henderson and Haynesworth. They were two of the best defensive linemen to ever play at UT. However, Reggie White is quite possibly the best defensive lineman to ever play football. Period.

Shaun Ellis (Big Katt), Darwin Walker, Parys Haralson... There used to be a much stronger DL than we have had in recent time.

Both of the studs I mentioned came in the same year. That is the kind of recruiting I want us to get back to, and I think it is possible.

By the way, with Bullards transfer I think we have to have one of the strongest and deepest OL's in the SEC this year.

Parys was good but doesn't belong in the same sentence with Walker and especially Ellis.

Some people seem to forget that White and Haynesworth got famous in the NFL moreso than having storied college careers. They were not 4 year All Americans.

At this point, Malik Jackson, Montori Hughes and Maurice Couch all have the potential to be legacies like Haynesworth at UT.

I actually think that those 3 represent the most potential at DT that we have had since Haynesworth and Henderson. Dan Williams was not paired with anyone incredible. You have to have two DTs who are amazing if you want to create a situation where the O Line is unable to key in on any of them.

We have a very strong chance of getting at least 2 of the guys on that list. Had we gotten Gabe Wright it would be less likely, but we are losing Malik after this season and Montori will go if he can.

Multiple guys will want to line up next to Mo Couch and fly as a tornado of rage towards the ball.

I am very hopeful that we keep Couch for 2 years to ensure some continuity, but it is possible that with a dominant year at DT we could lose Couch, Jackson and Hughes.

No, there's no way Hughes will see enough playing time to go early if Couch is tearing it up enough to leave after one season.

2005 roster had the best potential since H and H.

Robert Ayers
DeMonte Bolden
Wes Brown
Parys Haralson
Justin Harrell
Jesse Mahelona
Turk McBride
Tony McDanial
Vladimir Richard
Gerald Williams

Gerald Williams as we all know had a heck of a ride.

I would take several players that had the talent of these guys right now to fill-out the roster for this coming season.

Am I missing the NFL DTs? That group had some NFL DEs but I don't think you have 3 legit NFL potential DTs there like we will this fall.

Ya'll do know that Reggie White didn't even live up to his potential until his senior year at Tenn right? Even though he holds Tenn most sacks in a career, he could of done so much more.

:lolabove:

In his sophomore season 1981, White was chosen by his teammates to receive the UT Simpson Theatre Award as the Volunteer's Outstanding Lineman and the Spiva Award as Most Improved Defensive Player.

You have to remember, back in the day it was rare for a freshman/sophomore to come in and dominate automatically. They didn't have the same high school strength programs, etc. If Reggie White came out of high school right now, it'd be alot different story. He'd be ridiculous.

Believe what you want, the man underachieved until his senior year.

Um... I stated facts, it's not an opinion. Reggie White was our best D-lineman from his sophomore season on..... just because he didn't have 15 sacks every season means nothing. He is the best DE of all-time at UT and one of the best all-time in the NFL.

Did you have a Rivals subscription back in the late 70's/early 80's and know something I don't know about White? Was he a 5-star recruit or something? How exactly did he underachieve when he is noted as being our best D-lineman So, Jr, Sr year?

Alot of players get better with time. That is normal.

Fact: Lance Thompson will ultimately decide who we take on the DL

First name basis? Seriously? :birgits_giggle:

and doug atkins was easily the best dl tn or the nfl has had....if suffridge were to grow like todays kids,he would
be most dominate. You forget tn had the #1 player ever picked by the nfl in beattie feathers,a full blooded cherokee from bristol.
