This guy holds himself out as an expert on college football. He also is a publisher of Collegefootballnews (which I assume is allowed to be linked like a govols.com or cbssports.com article since it is not a competing blog site).

It is affiilliated with Scout.

Scout.com: 2011 Tennessee Preview ? Defense

Above is his link to our defense for the fall of 2011.

If you google Pete's name you can see that months after a ND recruit died he included him in his preview of the Irish for the fall of 2010, and he completely screwed his analysis of Michigan the year before.

When you read the guy and realize that it appears Scout is paying him to write about your team it is embarassing.

He did a good job on the write up for the offense but for the defense?

Dear Pete,
If you are reading this because Google brought you here, let me explain to you that Brent Brewer and Janzen Jackson will be the starting safeties in the fall and Byron Moore will be the best CB. Prentiss Waggner who you listed as the star of the defense and the best person in our secondary may be the 4th best player in the secondary in the fall or may be the 5th. He is most likely going to end up playing primarily as the nickel corner.

When you look at a team and you just go by statistics last year and you see his INTs, it is not surprising for you to be so wrong. Next time, watch some film. You may also want to check some message boards. This one is free and has several times gotten the depth chart pretty darn close even before your article came out.

Also, Rob Wilks? Really?

Check and double check the spellings for names, man.

All he did was copy and paste the post-spring depth chart found on GoVolsXtra. Would you really expect more from a non-fan?

Do you think this guy is blowing up Waggner for being on the Lott Trophy's Watch List? i agreed with the pass rush and LB assesment but everything else was iffy.

I usually don't take up for slime reporters, but he could be right on Waggner. Who is to say he will not be lousy or great? There are a lot of potentially great newbies coming in, but they are untested in SEC play. Waggner proved himself against the competition last year. OP mentions this blog as a good resource for evaluating Waggner, but the loud mouth naysayers just drown out the objective stats that he put up. I hope he is only the 4th or 5th best DB this year because that will mean the others are really good, but he will be there if they are not.

I find it amazing how some of the dumbest things I have ever seen in print, are put there by people who are supposed to be professional's at their craft..

Is the journalism field really hurting for people so bad that they pay people like this?

A craft overflowing with dumb jerks who majored in English and who don't know any more about sports, politics or anything else they cover any more than the average guy. They incestuously dub each other "experts" and jump on bandwagons to push their own self serving politically correct agendas.

There, I've had my say and feel better now.
