Pete Buttigieg has been on paternity leave amid Biden supply-chain crisis

The Department of Transportation revealed late Thursday that Secretary Pete Buttigieg has been on paternity leave since mid-August amid the massive ongoing supply-chain crisis that is threatening the timely delivery of everyday consumer goods and holiday gifts, according to a new report.

Besides several recent television hits, Buttigieg has been lying low, Politico reported, citing his office. Buttigieg’s team told the outlet that the secretary has been on paternity leave for nearly two months to spend time with his husband and two newborn babies and plans to continue to give them support in the coming weeks. The office had not previously announced his time off.

Isn't taking a cabinet position essentially saying "I'm on call whenever needed"?

Put a different way, if you can take several months off from the job are you really essential to the job?

He had trouble getting potholes filled in as mayor of South Bend .... what makes him qualified for doing a great job in filling this position.

You really need to go over to the Biden thread and say that to PJ on the specific topic of maternity leave 😂

Since the cabinet position can go 3 months without a head, should we just eliminate that position?
Does Pete not realize some positions demand attendance?
If he wants to be a stay at home dad, resign.

I agree. I am all for people spending more time with their families. Heck, I'm even for proposals about expending paid maternity/paternity leave among employers. But elected officials are where they are for a reason. I know he was appointed, instead of elected, but still. He has a job the tax payers are paying him to do, and especially, during a time of crisis, he doesn't need to be a no-show.

You seem to think that he might actually help things if he showed up for work? I think we're better off with him at home with his husband and kids.

That may be true. I didn't have much faith in him to begin with. But I also didn't think I would ever have to complain about the Sec. of Transportation doing their job.
