1st post ever... I’m on here every day for years, just prefer reading over writing, I guess. I personally think that JG is 1 of the worst qb’s in college football, and I hope he never plays in another game for UT. I felt this way even during our streak last year when he looked successful just because our receivers had the upper hand in all the jump balls he threw up that usually went our way in those close victories. I do believe in JP. He is a competitor, not a salesman and I think he truly puts the best players in at every position he feels that can win us a ballgame. Just 10 days ago, I would say the majority of us on here fully expected a victory over Georgia due to the strides we have made the past few years. Guess what?.. we still have that same coach. Our players all look bigger, stronger, and quicker than anytime in recent memory. We are having some very painful growth right now, but I honestly think we are growing and getting better. Go Vols!

Nope! Not with JG. Just expected to look competitive and expected to beat UK.
Not even close in either game so not so sure having that same coach is reassuring

He’s responsible for starting said QB and not recruiting anyone better

I think he has actually recruited better (see HB and possibly Slater 🤞)........however, I will definitely agree that if he made the remark "I dont have time to develop another QB" as mentioned on this board, then that is 100% on him. I hope he learns from that and realizes that there are some freshmen and underclassmen who, with the reps and practice with the 1's, could potentially contribute now. That sounds like, in my opinion, a hold over from his Bama coaching days where they had that luxury of extremely deep talent and you were not going to see the field until Jr. year.........we dont have that luxury.

My biggest question about all this JG garbage, has Fulmer bothered to have a serious talk with him on the image he is projecting by his obstinate fascination with JG?

I don't think the big money boosters will continue to support Pruitt if he continues this after the bye. I think Pruitt will be fine if JG plays most of the Bama game.

If JG has a bad showing against Bama, then starts against Ark, Pruitt will lose a lot of his support IMO.

I expect this is due to pressure to "win now" placed on him and his staff by Admin. and fans. Not that he doesn't have time per say, just not enough time because of these demands.

I definitely agree with that.........especially with the fans. I'm an 80's kid, grew up going to all the games from about Andy Kelly on so i want to win as much as anyone on this board and I'm very pissed at the athletic dept pre-fulmer and their decisions. And as much as it pains me to type it as its a borken record by now........we have to give it time and like it or not we need to stick with a coach who probably is learning quite significantly on the job. I just hope he uses his resources (i.e. Fulmer, Chaney, etc) to make the best decisions and is not being bull headed.

No offense but any UT fan who “expected” us to beat UGA is simply delusional. It’s one thing to believe we had “a chance” to beat UGA but if you expected us to beat them then I have to question your knowledge of football. We shouldn’t expect to beat the upper tier programs until our team shows that they are capable of beating those teams with any sort of consistency.

Shrout starts on Saturday, then JG comes in for the third series and plays the rest of the game. Same as last year. Pruitt gives just enough by not starting JG that the fan base is satisfied that he is considering a change, but not truly moving forward.

I think they did recruit some better ones but one is a freshman and the other shows up next year...nobody good was going to come here when he took over. Would you have in 2017 or 2018?

It is in my opinion that the boosters are keeping JG IN.

I hope Fulmer doesn't get involved at that level of detail, and I also don't think anybody outside the program really knows the dynamic behind why JG's still starting.

It's possible Pruitt has an "obstinate fascination with JG." It also seems possible that the opposite could be true; Chaney makes $1.5m/year, which isn't a salary you pay someone just to take orders from a head coach. I think it is also entirely possible that despite what many here think, Chaney is being allowed to run the offense entirely, he just isn't sold on Bailey, and Pruitt doesn't overrule him. We do know that Chaney did not recruit Bailey aggressively while he was at UGA.

I think the greater rub is that Pruitt & Co. did not play the transfer portal more effectively. It isn't like they didn't try (Chryst, Kasim Hill, made a run at JT Daniels) but it didn't work out.

No he should not, and he will not! He just needs to learn to make changes and stop favoring players.
Its year 3 and he still hasn't learned that JG sucks? He still hasn't learned to stop wasting all the first team reps on JG? The other qbs are barely getting reps. They cant improve because Pruitt wont give them reps and help them Improve. He gives everything to JG. It's almost like ye is trying to get fired. If he continues to play JG, then yes. He should be fired.

Well see thing is Chryst and the other dude never went to class and did not make grades. When that happens you are not allowed to sign any graduate transfers the next year...little known and a lesson learned for a new coach
