Before the season started battle tested Vol fans urged you to pump the brakes. Your gut told you all those stalled offensive plays and big defensive gashes were not an easy one year fix. We quieted those posters and thoughts easily enough. Then the season started.

The fourth quarter of the App state game and you had that sinking feeling you should have listened. The first quarter of the VT game and you had images of a guy on a stool not a coach on a stage with confetti raining down.

Reality is we aren't nearly as good as we imagined....or nearly as bad as we still fear.

Trust this team until they lose it. Thus far they have earned it.

God some of you are so dumb.

Do you not understand that every championship team experiences adversity?

I've never seen a team regardless of the sport cruise to a championship. Every team faces tough games and tough moments. They have flaws and weaknesses.

It's sports. Guys like you who predict defeat before the season provide nothing. Your just negative people.

This is a championship team that can beat anyone they play. Shut up. Sit back and just enjoy the ride.

The truly positive thing about team 120 is that they do in fact have the talent, depth, and attitude to beat everyone they play. They also seem to have a good bit of luck, which every championship team needs.

We haven't had that in a long time.

Will they beat everyone? I doubt it, but that's not the point. It's not like it was just a few years ago when we were merely hoping to stay close in games against Florida, Alabama, Georgia, etc.

Whew....so many freakin people throwing the word "championship" around.

I honestly just want this team to win the East, and put up a hell of a fight against Alabama in the SEC Championship.

Anything beyond that, and I'd be damn impressed.

As I see it, we're undefeated until we're not.

There's a reason this game is played on the field and not just on paper. Now we get to sit back and enjoy the emotional roller coaster that is a Tennessee Volunteers football season. Just keep pulling for our boys and enjoy the ride.

Your 2nd sentence contradicts your first. You said so many people are throwing around championship but in the next breath said you just want the team to win the East and then compete for a CHAMPIONSHIP...lol

I really do feel that most people using the word Championship are referring to Nat'l Championship...

Plus, being a championship team, and WINNING an SEC championship (with the current status of the East) is a HUGE disparity

Not buying. We've been told for 4 years now to wait. Give it time. Brick by brick. It takes time to rebuild a program..... on and on ad nauseum.

If we're in year 4 with ALL Butch recruits and the end product is something we have to "pump the brakes" on.... then OUR concerns going back to the start are TOTALLY vindicated.

That said, IMO, the difference between where UT is and were we all expected them to be is choosing the right personnel group on the OL. IMO, that DOES include Jack Jones and DOES NOT include Drew Richmond at this time.

1995 Nebraska football
2009, 2010, 2014 and 2016 UCONN womens basketball
1972 UCLA basketball
1976 Indiana basketball

These are just a few teams that have cruised to championships. Its rare but it happens.

At year 4, we should not be making excuses. Other teams are developing players and they are making an immediate impact. This tells me we are struggling to develop the talent.

How many of you were in the "surrender cobra" pose watching Tennessee Vs Arkansas 1998? The best lesson learned by these kids so far this season, is that they've learned to "put on more steam". During the Dooley years the team would've given up. With this team, they've found ways to get back in it.

This fanbase reminds me of the SNL skit "Lowered Expectations"

I guess it is due to the teeth kickings and crotch shots we have taken over the past decade due to our love for the VOLS.

Well, I remember a time when we were very good and expected to win every game.

8 of the last 10 SEC champions have won the national championship.

So no there is not a big disparity between being the SEC champion and the national champion. Odds are if we win the SEC title, we're gonna win the national title.

Agreed! Florida State has a TRUE freshman QB that is everything NOW, we hoped Dobbs would become...but still is not much better than he was as a freshman.

O-Line has been a disappointment, but to me I saw some improvement last week and believe we will continue to improve. Since this thread is titled "perspective," I wonder what the comments were on the Arkansas sites after week 1? What about the Georgia site after week 2? Certainly LSU in week 1 and Florida in week 1 would also have a lot of negative comments. Georgia in week 1 was dramatically different in week 2. We are an imperfect, but talented team that has won 8 games in a row and we will win a lot of games this year. If I were one of our opponents, I certainly would not feel over-confident playing against Tennessee.

We have to deal with Bama FL UGA and Tamu to even get to the SEC championship first

I have to agree with you, this team hasn't quit! But to be successful in the league our team plays in, our team has to be more prepared in game situations and better decisions made at the top.

So tell me how Dobbs is supposed to do anything behind this line?

You guys keep saying we won't beat anyone with this o-line. Then you turn around and say Dobbs can't throw eventhough he gets no time behind a porous o-line.

Which one is it?

Or do you just like whining?

I don't see anything I said as whining! And I never said that we won't beat anyone! The true fact of the matter is' a coach should model his team around his talent. If the OL is "porous", get the ball out his hands faster. I never blamed Dobbs for our issues. We have an excellent team, full of talent, that needs to be shown the way.

We do. Do you not see how many screen passes we throw?

How successful are they? Do you see how little we hit our TE (who is our best receiver) on quick hits? How often do we throw a slant? How often do we throw the ball up and let our big guys go get it?
