I watched the whole game.

Positives:

Tennessee is a much tougher, more unified football team. No doubt about it.

The running game is tough and physical, and is quite capable of wearing teams down. UCLA had nothing left at the end of the game.

The defense is strong, extremely fast, and very well coached. This could be a top 10 unit again this year.

MH is a really strong runner.

Special teams seem much stronger than any year in recent memory. The kickoff coverage is amazing. My only ?? is a PR where Nuke seems like a liability.

Negatives:

No playmakers at WR. UCLA has a decent secondary, but they shouldn't have been able to shut down UT like that on the outside.

Crompton cannot win games. If the running game is not dominating the opponent, UT is in a lot of trouble because Crompton just doesn't have "it".

Pass blocking is inconsistent.

The LB'ers: They're pretty solid against the run, but they aren't that good in pass coverage.

Where is Eric Berry? This guy is the best defensive player in the SEC and he just doesn't seem to have the same presence he did last year. Are the coaches moving him around too much?

Obviously too many turnovers.

Final thoughts:

I don't blame Kiffin for running on fourth down. I wouldn't want to put the game in Crompton's hands either.

Tennessee looks like a decent, hard nosed team, but they won't beat anybody that can stop their running game unless something miraculous happens at the QB position.

I watched the whole game as well, UT just flat out sucked today. No offense to Vols fans, I'm just saying.

Ya think? Not to take away from your post but no kidding. Crompton loses games. I bet a freshman like Price wins this game for Tennessee. Crompton is the worst.

If this game is any indication, it looks like they just picked up where they left off last year. We desperately need good QB play.

And you have to tip your hat to UCLA. Without the fumble inside their own twenty, they don't give up a TD today.

Best analysis I have read on the game.

The only thing I disagree with is your take on Berry. The guy has been all over the field and in on nearly every play. Granted, he has not gotten a pick yet, but its not like teams have been passing all over the field on us either.

is it hurting his secondary play yes, but I think its helping to hide our lack of special LBs. so EB is gonna play at or near the LOS more often than not on 1st and 2nd down.

He did ALOT of blitzing today.

Good analysis.

UT had a couple of key injuries, one at WR and at Center. That explains partly the poor play there. The defense is better then expected, the offense much worse.

True. EB and Rico McCoy are trying to make up for a slow, undersized MLB.

I agree for the most part. I loved how the offense contolled the ball in the 4th qt. Those were two impressive drives. Not being able to convert into a TD sucked, but if they cannot punch the ball in from the three, then they do not deserve to win, IMHO. I just want the 19th to hurry up and be over with.

Good post, I can't really disagree with anything you said.

At the WR position, we may get a bit better once Jones and Moore are 100%, but who knows with JC passing to them.

I will also say this....all the UCLA fans that I spoke with, my number one question was, "how do you like the atmosphere and stadium?" All responses....AWESOME!

The atmosphere in that stadium was awesome yesterday until crompton started throwing the ball to UCLA. But then again, in the fourth quarter, the fans kicked it up for the team.

Also, as much as you guys dislike Crompton, on that drive BEFORE the safety, he brought Tennessee down the field and had a couple key pass plays.

Every blind squirrel gets a nut from time to time. I just don't think you can put the game in the hands of him after a game like he had.

Tennessee defense- very good, but I'm still not sure just how good because WKU and UCLA have atrocious offenses.

Crompton- terrible. Could Nick Stephens be any worse?

Quinton Hancock is Tennessee's most polished WR right now, but he doesn't have great speed for separation. Solid possession receiver though.

A good cover corner neutralizes him and they don't have a decent QB to get the ball to him.

The only negative things about the defense I've noticed is that they still tend to over pursue and still try to arm tackle instead of wrapping up in the open field.
