I think the OP pointed to something that was particularly insightful. Namely, how important the mental aspect of the game of football is. And as it pertains to Saturday, from the second quarter on, Virginia Tech did not believe that they were going to win the football game. Certainly they had momentum for brief periods of time, but in general they were mentally defeated. And the Vols knew that they were going to win. Let's hope that this confidence remains with our team for the duration of the season. It's been awhile since I've seen it consistently.

First of all, I would like to thank Vol Nation (well most of you) for the warm welcome, when I came upon this site. I plan on continuing be a regular contributor, as I have never rooted for an SEC school, but I guess I will root for Vol's as my SEC favorite now.

...

This is one of the first time's that I have witnessed my Hokies lose a ballgame, and come away, actually with some optimism in a loss. You see, the losses that Hokie Nation have been accustomed to were the result of poor coaching, and an inept offense. I saw flashes of a really good offense, and the Defense, regardless of the scoreboard will be special this year.

...

Agree with the other 100+ VN members that thought this was a classy post.

Grew up in Bristol, though admittedly on the Tennessee side - but knew a lot of guys that went to VT (all the way back to David Lamie and George Heath) and am always happy to see you do well.

Especially agree with the 2nd paragraph I left in your quote above. Game was closer than score implied, and a few less bad breaks and better ball discipline would have made it interesting to say the least. Expecting really strong work from VT over the rest of this season and over next couple years.

BTW, tells your buds UT has a top notch engineering school and that's no slight on VT. At one point, thanks to ORNL and UT, the highest density of PhDs in the country was Knoxville/Oak Ridge (and I don't mean social sciences and women's studies)... :)
