Periscope will directly lead to a P5 program getting smacked down hard by the NCAA within the next two years.

Twitter is bad enough, considering kids have tweeted pics of themselves holding wads of cash immediately after committing. At least there's the time lag of having to type the tweet, attach the photo, send it out, so the kid has a moment to think about what he's about to do or for an upperclassman to tell him not to click <Send>. With Periscope, it's going out live. These kids don't know all of the rules. Hell, half of all college coaches don't know all of them. While the videos can be fun to watch, I think it will lead to some program getting hammered in the near future.

What do you all think?

As media savvy as Butch is, I imagine he's developed a Periscope training program and implemented strict guidelines in its use. At least, I hope he has.

Possibly..I know they have a department like most that monitors and educates them on social media...I think Butch probably told Kahlil to stay off social media after his Twitter fight last year

but that said Periscope is an awesome app and you guys should check it out. I use a lot of social media in the classroom Poll Everywhere, Kahoot, Prezi and I use Periscope sometimes when homeschooling my seven year old(who can map almost every country on a map) to show different views of the world. There are some awesome Scopers..there is a guy who bikes through the Alps, a woman who strolls the sites of Paris, a guy who will take you on a your to see Jim Morrison's tomb and inside the Louvre..the woman from Choo Choo Soul also does daily book readings and several churches scope their services

I have an I-Phone I can make calls with.

Yeah..unfortunately I have one also..I was telling my students how much harder it is to be in relationships today as opposed to when I was dating...you have to be available 24/7 now..back in the 80s-90s..you could just claim to not be home if you didn't feel like talking :)

That's pretty awesome. Never considered that people would use it for educational purposes.

I've just used it to stream UFC fights...

yeah it's also good for that..I think Neil Diamond's wife scoped every one of his concerts this past year..one of the coolest ones I ever saw was Joe Perry from Aerosmith backstage by himself practicing right before going on stage..thought it was neat seeing how much those guys still cared about getting it just right after all these years

Everybody is "On call" 24/7 in some form or another these days. We think if we don't stay caught up we will get left behind. I step away more and more as I get older and I find that you pick up where you left off pretty quickly. Kinda like the old soap operas. The same actors are still in those shows today that were there 20 years ago.

In regards to recruiting this takes internet stalking of 17-18 year old kids to the next level.

OP is spot on. You can joke if you want to but go on right now and you can easily find in 5 mins videos showing players drinking and saying what ever is on their minds. I can tell you for a fact exactly which club several players & recruits wete partying at 3am last night. Its going to be a major issue b4 long. I was hoping to find a video w a recruit where they let it slip that they were committing. Instead .... I thank God non of the stupid teenage decisions I made were broadcast live to anyone with a smart phone.

Honestly as much of a control freak CBJ is... It surprises me that he'd allow the players to Periscope.

I guess on the positive side, since they know it's broadcast to the world, they might behave better?

Whose stalking? The kids openly ask for you to follow them. If you do then everytime they go live you get a message w a link to the broadcast. If you think thas stalking then your wrong. And if you don't think I am not going to watch a video that kahlil broadcasts when I know hes hosting Nigel & Derrick & a few others then your nuts. Instead of hoping to get a few tibits sunday or monday from Hubbs & Co, I can litterally see what goes on during an actual visit! Who wouldn't be curious to see that & hopefully gets some news straight from the player!

The problem is when they dont know. Someone in the crowd at a club last night was broadcasting live & the players/recruirs didnt know they were on periscope. Luckily nothing was said but can you imagine something like the party last year were police came & suddenly the whole thing is broadcast live from 20 different angles by people in the crowd

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the app is evil and should be destroyed. Nor am I saying that it wouldn't be fun to sort of ride along on an OV via Periscope. I'm just saying that the immediacy of the app can lead to unintended consequences.

It's like a chainsaw, which can be used productively (say, as a prop in a movie like "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"), but can also be used inappropriately (such as in an actual chainsaw massacre).

Maybe it's just me but as a 38 year old adult I don't really want to watch a group of 17-20 year old boys partying in hopes that one says they might commit. My attention span to sift through Twitter is pretty much nil as well. I can patiently wait till said information is compiled and presented in highlights.

There are too many variables that are controlled by young people w periscope that will be the issue. Nothing good can come from kids having a live camera to the world to say & do anything that comes to their minds. Its a nightmare senario for parents, etc.
