Last nights finish is the PERFECT EXAMPLE of why you can't judge a teams success on what happens in the tourney.

Just a complete travesty for the season to be decided on such a play.

You absolutely have to look at the entire body of work to judge a team.

Just stop stop stop the basketball is a tourney sport BS.

Yeah I know, but it still doesn't take the hurt away man lol. I love this team and proud of how far they came, but dang I wanted a Final 4.

I loved followings this team, one of the most enjoyable in my 50+ years. However, at the end of the day, the only banner they will hang to remind us about them is a "2018" on our Sweet 16 banner. For a program with the fan support we have always had, it still amazes me we have 1 Elite 8 and zero Final 4 appearances in our history. Guess that what happens when your supposedly a " football school"

Maybe they shouldn't have sleep walked in the first half, and actually come out with a sense of urgency, intensity, and focus for an entire game?

They played well for half that tournament. That's it. Terrible 2nd half against Colgate, terrible 2nd half against Iowa, and terrible 1st half and OT against Purdue.

Lindsay had 20 calls for Purdue, 10 for Tennessee. He also called that last foul on the 3. Tennessee is 3-3 in games officiated by him.

His body language reveals that he doesn’t like Grant. Told him to “quit talking” in our last regular season at Auburn.

I have said this a couple of times, but I thought they came out tight and it was obvious. JMO.

I love this team so much, but what can we base success on this season? Had a shot at the regular season title, blew it. Made it to the conference championship, got blown out. Struggled in the tournament just to get eliminated in the sweet 16. These guys showed as much heart and passion as any team I’ve ever seen, but it’s gonna be hard to call this season a success.

Very tight. The moment was too big for that entire half but boy oh boy did they rise to the occasion.
Purdue came out and hit them in the mouth. Instead of taking it and laying down, our boys got back up and hit them harder. This game was pretty much the exact opposite of the Iowa game.

Iowa game: We get a huge lead, lose the lead, go to OT and win.

Purdue game: Fall behind, come back, but lose in OT.

Shocking this came from Bruin.

We just should eliminate the whole idea of playoffs and tournaments. Just have seasons and call it a day.

What’s funny is even if we went by this crazy idea Tennessee still didn’t win anything, so it doesn’t matter either way.

"gonna be hard to call this season a success"...........really? Wow. 31-6 with 2 victories over all of our major rivals, but not a success?

30+ win season, Sweet 16 appearance, and we did it clean with a roster of kids that no one else wanted. It was a success as far as I'm concerned. It SHOULD have been better. We SHOULD have had some banners to hang but it is what it is.

They were a preseason top 10 team. They didn’t win a conference title. They didn’t get to the Final Four. Hell, didn’t even get to the Elite Eight. How can you honestly sit back and say “yup great season UT achieved all their goals.”

Didn’t win anything significant.

So where does the basketball is a tourney sport genius like yourself draw the line of "significance"???

Winning 31 games was meaningless I see

Beating Kentucky in the SEC tourney didn't measure up I see.

Making the sweet 16 didn't measure up I see.

I guess it was Natty or bust

Boooom!!

There it is. The line of significance has been drawn.

Achieving their goals.

Well it's been clear all year the players goal was to win it all and since they fell short they are failures.

Lol

My kids are now basketball fans and love the game because of what our players have accomplished the past two seasons. That will mean more to me than any banner collecting dust in TBA.

Very good post. I watched with my 8 year old son last night, and he was into it. I tried to take him to the SEC title game, but we couldn’t get in. He was disappointed. It’s the start of a generation of fans. If we were 15-15, no one would care.

Great post and no doubt the impact this team made is immeasurable in many different ways
