Per Thamel: Heupel informed team this morning that Vols would move on from Nico.

I agree Heupel made the right decision but let’s not be naive. Nico was our best QB option and now he’s gone. We won’t be better this year without him. I just hate it’s happened.
Heroes are made, not born. Let's hope one of out backups plays well enough to enjoy the ending of the season

I really thought this was gonna be a bunch of hoopla to stir stuff up. I guess it wasn't. Oh well. Bye then. We won't miss ya. Better not step foot in the whole state of TN again.

ESPN says we have already kicked the tires through intermediaries to gauge interest, and one school has already upped their QB’s NIL deal to avoid losing him
I think Alabama has 4 QB’s that are wanting the starting job, who knows.

I imagine webb is just stirring the pot but idk lol

Nico looks great in all those no contact or 7 on 7 videos of which he was wearing jumpsuits. He was scary good in those videos.
Nico in pads, knowing he could get hit and there are 4 more moving pieces Nico got complacent. Slow to read because it is tougher when you have to think and throw.
Several games were telling and he was still struggling with this mid season.
His thoughts of coming here was the money and that he could out talent his SEC Competition.
His overthrows, his processing, and a lack of stepping up worked against lesser opponents.
Does not work in the SEC.
Should have seen this earlier but as a fan, I did not take time to realize it.
You can't play SEC ball if you are not SEC bread or caliber because it is like a NFL farm league.
His dad did not get it and maybe he did but the cold reality it was going to take a while 4 years to achieve it.
I don't see him going to the B10 or ever returning to the SEC until he has been coddled a while. He is just not the caliber of player QB fit for the conference.
He was bigger than the team. Sampson and defense were the keys to wins against upper echelon opponents last year.
Nico had a serviceable year, but made statements like I am going to put my foot on the opponent's throat and hold them down.

Additional: Thoughts CJH saw this I believe. Why do I believe it because he recruited 3 outstanding QBs with credentials that played hard nose southern football.
Pajama pants were clearly a warning sign. Seriously tho...the way we catered to the kid and his family during the courtship had to embolden the advisors. Hopefully those "signals" by Heupel and co are a thing of the past with recruiting.

For every Nico, there's a quarterback with less drama that can play as good. There are a lot of quarterbacks that may be a little less talented but have won at a high level. Those are the quarterbacks we need

Fully support JH and UT here. The SEC isn't for everyone. QB needs to be able to read a defense and hit wide open receivers. Nico is destined for the PAC 10. Will probably put up big numbers too since there is very few defenses as athletic as what the SEC has.

I am 100% at peace with this. No sleep lost. No f**ks given. If anything, I feel better about the program given how the staff handled this attempted hijacking. It might mean one or two more losses this season but I'm willing to deal with that. In all honesty, I never liked Nico anyway. I respected his talent but he was far too laid back and casual to lead a program like Tennessee. Go chase the dollar, Nico. If you need us we can be found wearing orange and singing Rocky Top at the top of our damn lungs! #GBO

A lot of good things came out of that courtship.
It served it's purpose in an unforeseen way.
Best thing is it served as the beginning of establishing that the NCAA was not a true governing agency, the NCAA could not enforce rules that did not exist, their investigative techniques were not equal, and really got them off our backs.
Later, it show even if we did what they said we did and admitted to it they showed they could not adjudicate with some prejudice.
I am waiting for the NCAA to come down and rule that we owe NICO money for not playing here. LOL

I’m leaning your way in this.

Nico got exposed in high level games.

His running was a nice dimension but not sure he would hold up physically another season with cracked helmets as in tOSU game.

It seems like its mostly a deal where nico is allowing the people around him to drive the decision making about his future. By any objective measure, jumping to a new school in the spring is not in his longterm best interest.

The main thing is we need men from good families whose parents aren’t egotistical money hungry jackasses.
