Per Thamel: Heupel informed team this morning that Vols would move on from Nico.

Guarantee the NFL doesn’t give 2 💩’s who he plays for in college or how many schools he shakes down.
Might make them a tad concerned about using a high first round pick on someone who thinks contracts and commitments are negotiable. Sad thing is if he hadn’t ghosted his team yesterday, he would’ve got his damn money. Coming a day after social media revealed the behind the scenes goings on and his dad calling out said media? This was the only choice.

That’s exactly right. His dad is THE problem in all of this and he may have quite likely screwed his son over.

Sadly, you see this too often in amateur sports. Money changes people. I hope he and his dad make it through everything coming at them the next few years.

Going to be interesting to see who Tennessee can get out of the portal at the QB position. One of the current two may start, but totally expect team to get someone else from the portal. A lot of money freed up may get some other players also.

wish him and his dad nothing but the worst in life

Totally disagree with this. It's never moral to wish bad on others. Usually it comes right back to you.

I wish Nico and his family the best. I just know we're better off without them here anymore. Just leave it at that. We don't need to wishing ill on others. Especially when they've done nothing morally wrong. They want more money. Let them get that elsewhere. We told him what he's worth and let's leave it at that.

If it really is true that he held out specifically over money then yeah no choice but to move on I guess if they didn’t want to pay him. Unfortunately, however, now we have to hope that another redshirt freshman who has never started and barely played can lead the team. Even if they find a replacement in the portal that player won’t have the benefit of going through spring practice with the team. I hope next year isn’t one of those “growing pains” years that we Vol fans know all too well. Not to mention the fact that we have to hope we don’t lose any more of the few blue chip players we still have in the fallout from this. I wonder how many of these kids signed up specifically to play with Nico? Every year it seems like there’s ALWAYS some kind of drama with this program 🤦‍♂️

The next thing to watch is whether Matthews is in the O&W pregame and Vol Walk.

In other words, is there a domino effect.

If he wants to go he can follow Nico out the door. The standard has been set. You're either in or you're out. No more holding the program hostage for more money.

We want know until we know. Matthews will be there and play. Do you hit the Portal because of a player or because of the coaching staff

This speculation is out of nowhere. It is a munity I guess. I going to the portal because Nico went.
Time will tell.

He will not be playing in the SEC if he does and one would think that is where he would want to be. He could go to other schools outside the SEC but sorry.
I guess you don't think these backup QBs are worth a crap.
Probably not as talented but at least they have a brain.

They’ll be fine financially to move ahead. He’ll go back to the West Coast and it’ll be forgotten as he won’t be the focal point in the large media city.

So now all that Spyre money goes with Nico, and UT and the contributors get nothing out of it.

And...we now only have 2 school quarterbacks with little or game experience.
Josh needs to get in the portal jiffy quick for an experienced quarterback.

Good riddance. Tennessee football will be fine, and better off in the long run having set this precedent.

It's laughable that the "contributors" thought they'd ever get anything out of it. The whole system is an unmitigated dumpster fire into which people are throwing money. That's their prerogative, yes...but it's still low-key amusing to see this transpire.

I’m not that concerned about Nico leaving. I am concerned though that this will open the floodgates and some of the guys on the roster that demanded raises in the spring are now going to bolt and leave us in an even worse position heading into the fall.
I believe that more would have left if they gave into the demands.

Where does Nico now rate on the hate rankings of former players in program history?
Who could be higher? JG played 3 games with a cast on his hand and is absolutely a VFL. Maybe Toto but that’s still not quite the same thing. Washington’s behavior wasn’t public until after he left. I can’t think of anyone.

I wouldn’t get my hopes up if I were you.
