1. If the recruits are that stupid they don't need to be in college.
Thats a joke. Most people know of the Service Academies but dont know where they are located.

2. If they are our recruits, what does the Air Force Academy have to do with anything?
Because our recruits need to know we're bringing in a coach who has a proven track record that will step in and be better than Kiffin and Phil. They will have to google him and see hes done nothing as a coach to warrant HC consideration even at Tennessee.

I'd take the Hawaiian coach at Navy over Calhoun as our next HC.

MY MY MY how TENNESSEE football has fallen......

First he hire an untested Kiffen then he jets for the beach!!!

Second we are turning to an Air Force coach to bail us out???

Loss for words at this point:mf_surrender:

Yea!! Kinda like Florida hiring a coach from Utah in the MWC to coach in the SEC. That would never work out:crazy:

THUD!!!!!!!!!!!!! That sound describes:
1. how the throw-up sounded when it just hit the floor
2. how the program will respond over the next 3 years before this guy is fired
3. how our recruiting rakings will plummet with this coach (including this year)
4. the sound of Nick Satan and Urban the Jerk-Meyer when they fell on the ground
laughing
You are only as good as your recruits. Period. That is why we liked Kiffin...the package of recuiters that came with him..thats why USC wanted him; the recruiting package. We NEED a proven recruiter. Houston Dale Nutt can make all those one and two star recruits play like three star players......but his teams can only reach a certain level. They are limited by talent. We will NOT beat Florida, Georgia, LSU, or Alabama b/c we have more discipline, or work harder. You have to have talent. Period.

Everybody is judging the guy before he even steps on campus and coaches a game...I wasn't high on Kiffin when he was hired but he got a an all star staff and where did that get us?..7-6 and a beat down in the chikfila bowl...Lets at least give the guy a chance before claiming he will ruin the football program because I got news for you, It's in shambles right now.

People .. please do some research. Calhoun only runs the option because of the players he has availabe. Do any of the NFL teams run the option.

2007: Head Coach, Air Force
2006: Offensive Coordinator/ Quarterbacks, Houston Texans
2005: Assistant to Head Coach, Denver Broncos
2004: Offensive Assistant/ Special Teams, Denver Broncos
2003: Defensive Assistant, Denver Broncos
2001-02: Offensive Coordinator/ Quarterbacks, Wake Forest
1997-2000: Offensive Coordinator/ Quarterbacks, Ohio University
1995-96: Quarterbacks, Ohio University
1993-94: Recruiting Coordinator/ JV Offensive Coordinator, Air Force
1989-90: Graduate Assistant, Air Force

How do you know he had the ability to put his own offense in place in the NFL? He was a coordinator for 1 year under Kubiak(a former OC).

remember how auburn fans reacted to gene chizik? remember this before you go bashing a coach before he even steps foot on campus. he didn't finish great, but seems to be a pretty decent hire. it's a shame a well-known, nationally recognized name is what gets all your jollies off.

I saw in Chris Lowe's email that they were talking to Kevin Steele, the DC at Clemson. Any chance they are talking to him about hiring him away as the DC? If we get Calhoun, we probably don't have to pay quite as much for him as some names, and a good DC hire to go with him would make him much more attractice. I think Lance T. has the chance to be a good DC, but not sure he is ready yet at this level. But, I could be wrong about that.....

The difference with Kiffin was that we knew he could bring in a great staff and become a big time recruiter before we even hired him. I didnt like Kiffin from the beginning but I realized he had the potential to allow the team to win games and get top talent at UT.

Calhoun has no track record to prove he can do anything at UT. He has no ties to recruiting Nationally, he doesnt really recruit at AFA. This hire pales in comparison to every other coach in the SECe.

I can see Urban Bayer laughing at his phone with this news breaking.:banghead2:

IF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is true...I'm not sure if it is a bad hire.

UT needs a coach with integrity and class. Calhoun played at AFA and coaches there. He fits that bill. He has history in the NFL, did good things at Ohio and Wake.

He is not a sexy choice, but may be the CORRECT choice. Jim Tressel was not looked at as a great hire at OSU, Spurrior was not at UF,but they seemed to work. UT does not need a splash hire, they need a good hire...a man with class that has a special work ethic.

Now..to go a different direction...
I liked Fulmer, but my problem with him all along was this 1 thing...which is killing UT right now.....How many Assist. coaches that he had have become HC's????1 (Cutt)???
There are not any coaches out there that bleed orange that are dying to come to UT. Majors had his flaws...but had great assistants that became HC's. UT needs a UT guy...just none are out there. that is a problem!

Yeah with no ties to the SEC and an unproven offense that will NEVER WORK IN THE SEC! :good!:
This is such a f'ing joke.

Urban Bayer was a Nationally respected young assistant and recruiter at Notre Dame. He was viewed as a young up & comer and that built him connections all over the south recruiting for ND when they were good.

How do you think he got Matt Elam? He recruited his older brother 10 years ago.

I hope this is true.....he will be the perfect hire and will bring much needed discipline to a program some see as being rogue.

We can all assume its a bad hire.

UT needs a coach with integrity and class. Calhoun played at AFA and coaches there. He fits that bill. He has history in the NFL, did good things at Ohio and Wake.
That means little we expected integrity from a legend like Monte Kiffin and he showed us none. He did nothing good at Ohio or Wake Forest, I have about 10 tabs open and he was nothing more than an assistant under Jim Grobe back when Grobe's teams were bad and irrelevant.

He is not a sexy choice, but may be the CORRECT choice. Jim Tressel was not looked at as a great hire at OSU, Spurrior was not at UF,but they seemed to work. UT does not need a splash hire, they need a good hire...a man with class that has a special work ethic.
Tressel was viewed as a great hire because he was a former OSU assistant and won several National Champions at Youngstown State. It came down to him or Glen Mason if you remember.

Spurrier was a great hire also because he won a Heisman there and had turned Duke around and was young at the time.

Nobody knows about his class or work ethic.
