I am going to watch the games regardless but uh, we have to be happy with the hire or we're not really fans kind of seems to be your sentiments.

That's how cults are started. You're not happy with the direction but you just follow along anyways without questioning a thing.

Germany lost.

Recruits probably dont even know where the AFA is located.

1. If the recruits are that stupid they don't need to be in college.

2. If they are our recruits, what does the Air Force Academy have to do with anything?

As a Bama fan......................I approve this hire.
I also thought that the Kiffin hire was good for Bama.

Guys please. The guy was an offensive cord and qb coach in the NFL for 4years. He's not going whip out the flex on us. It would be nice to have though when we need it. He also has experience on defense.
He wasnt good at either as an offensive coordinator or qb coach.

He didnt get the AFA job because he had overly impressived everybody, he got the AFA job because he was the most prominent alumni in the NFL or college football.

Hamilton doesn't realize that Calhoun is not deserving a HC job. You never hire from the AFA if you're a big time program.

After reading about the guy, I kind of feel okay about the hire. The big question will be recruiting, but I have a feeling he will be okay there with the right staff.

Sorry, but i dont buy it. I just checked their site and all it says is that he is calling a team meeting, which we already know. It didn't say one thing about us hiring him.

Coaching career
Calhoun is a 1989 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. After graduation, he served on the Air Force coaching staff under Fisher DeBerry as a Graduate Assistant for the 1989-90 seasons. He served as the Falcon’s recruiting coordinator and the junior varsity offensive coordinator in 1993-94.

In 1995, he moved to Ohio University where he served as the quarterbacks coach for two seasons, and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 1997. During his first season at Ohio, his offense had measurable success, particularly in games against Eastern Michigan where the school totaled 612 yards, second most in school history, as well as a win against Maryland, which was Ohio's first victory over a school from the ACC. The following week, Ohio fell three points short of defeating Kansas State.

In his final year at Ohio, the offense set a school record with 418.1 yards per game and rushed for a school best 3,553. The Bobcats also ended the season with wins over two bowl teams, Minnesota and Marshall.

Calhoun became offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach of Wake Forest University in 2001. During Calhoun's second season, the Demon Deacons led the ACC in total offense with 408.1 yards per game, with a league best 990 plays and only 16 turnovers.

Calhoun began his NFL career with the Denver Broncos as a defensive assistant in 2003, and later moved to offense and special teams. When Broncos offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak was hired as the Texans' head coach, Kubiak brought Calhoun along and made Calhoun his offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Calhoun finished out the 2006 season with the Texans before taking over at Air Force.

[edit] Air Force
Calhoun was hired on December 22, 2006 to be the head football coach for Air Force, replacing DeBerry who retired after 23 years as the Falcons' head coach. In his first season as head coach of the Falcons, he took the team to a 9-3 record, and a spot in the Armed Forces Bowl against Cal. On December 4, 2007, Calhoun was named Mountain West Coach of the year for 2007.[1]

He seems like a winner. I don't think he will win flashy, but given the negative publicity that Tennessee sports has had lately, this was a "must" hire for Hamiliton. I believe he will win in time, but it will be a painful 2-3 years in Volnation.

People .. please do some research. Calhoun only runs the option because of the players he has availabe. Do any of the NFL teams run the option.

2006: Offensive Coordinator/ Quarterbacks, Houston Texans
2005: Assistant to Head Coach, Denver Broncos
2004: Offensive Assistant/ Special Teams, Denver Broncos
2003: Defensive Assistant, Denver Broncos
2001-02: Offensive Coordinator/ Quarterbacks, Wake Forest
1997-2000: Offensive Coordinator/ Quarterbacks, Ohio University
1995-96: Quarterbacks, Ohio University

Another upside to Calhoun, I doubt he would accept players robbing Pilot's with pellet guns.

So you're saying he recruited to Wake forest and ohio university for a few years. Great. They are awesome (laying the sarcasm on pretty thick)...

You don't recruit to AFA, you don't recruit in the pros. We just went from some of the best recruiters (albeit douchebag liars) to this?! FML

Any body else realize that this makes a little since that he is hard on our radar with him being the OC at the Houston Texans while Kippy Brown was there coaching recievers. Don't know if it is true but I am sure Hammy went to Brown and asked him what he thought of the guy and Brown might really be vouching for the guy if he likes him and thinks he has a good offensive mind. Remember people he only ran the Wish bone at AFA cause of his athletes availible. Don't know if I agree with the hire but might work out.
