Per Locked on UCLA. Team Nico back shopping

If he does transfer, a surprising potential destination has already surfaced — one that would bring him back to the Volunteer State and pit him against his former team.

“The wild-card option is Vanderbilt, where Diego Pavia has quickly become a fan favorite,” wrote SI’s Matt De Lima. “Pavia will not be in Nashville forever, and when he moves on, the Commodores could pivot to Iamaleava as his heir…. If the goal is to show NFL evaluators that he can endure adversity and lead an SEC team, Vanderbilt is an underrated landing spot. The path would be difficult, but for Iamaleava, so far every step of the journey has been.”

Says Tex Tech or Miami may be the destination. Says Nico will probably play the season but still no guarantees
Not buying a word of it. Sounds like Papa Nick trying to stir up some interest by "leaking" some names. I just don't see there being much of a market for him. Some lower tier team may take a chance if they can get him at a discount, but it would be such a pay cut that I have trouble seeing him leaving UCLA.

I'm not so sure the Bruins would even want him back. Face it, the guy consumes a great deal of resources and air in the room-and he is just not very good. They probably couldn't just cut him or anything, but his NIL could be cut to zero unless there is already some agreement for next year

Good, gives us more of a reason to beat the piss out of Vandy.

Honestly, why would TTU or Miami want him?

They can buy whatever QB they want. Why pick one who is not very good.
agreed, he is not going to step up to a better school than UCLA. he hasn't shown anything at UCLA to warrant a step up. that combined with the mess of leaving UT the way he did buried any value he has.

If you are a contender, you don't want him as your QB1. may be a fine QB2, but not someone you can count on to help you win games. at best he is a game manager type.

teams with money will go elsewhere. maybe if someone gets left at the altar like we did, he gets a phone call.

I'm sure they would love to get out of it, but they may be contractually obligated to keep his NIL contract unless he doesn't make grades, gets arrested, etc. At this point, he would be foolish to leave UCLA from a financial perspective. He will make even less money and there is little to no chance of him getting any NFL interest. To make matters even more complicated, there is the little brother factor. I'm sure his value has also diminished somewhat on the open market and they don't want to burn bridges unless the have something lined up for him. This is one heck of a mess they have created by trying to handle it themselves. Once this reality sets in and they realize how much damage they have done to themselves, look for the blame to start. No telling what kind of narrative they will come up with next to villainize Heupel.

Miami did choose Carson Beck. He was just a beneficiary of the best program in the country and also not a great QB. Better than Nico but not great.

Nico doesn't have the mental capacity to face SEC fans if he returns. He will have a mental breakdown over the fans being mean to him if he ever plays against the Vols.

At this point, why do we care. He did not fit in here as well as he could have. We have had two west coast QBs in the last couple of years. One had a "laid back Snoop Dog too cool" attitude. He was here for two years, one of which he should have learned the playbook inside and out. He just didn't like the playbook, didn't want to take the time to learn it, or simply was not able to understand it. We were NEVER able to run the offense at normal warp speed. He/entourage wanted everything that he supposedly came to UT for changed. He did not like the personnel that were here, didn't think the coach was serious about the school winning, etc. I love Snoop Dog, but his stage persona is not the best mind set to lead a high-level program, or even a low-level program as seen this year. His attitude is why some receivers from last year left or at least threatened to. He swapped places with this year's west coast QB. Big difference! JA has come to UT, and in less than three months, has not only learned a larger portion of a far more complex offense than last year, but is able to run it at warp speed. More and more is added every week, and Joey seems to be able to make the correct read extremely quickly and get the ball out. He does have some swag on the field, but off the field he is extremely humble and always points out the contributions of his TEAM in the final result.... even when he is the one having praise heaped on him. The receivers are stoked and for the most part are elevating their games to a much higher level. The deep ball is back, and the team is a blast to watch again. One got paid a fortune and was a highly sought after five star. The other was a barely known three star that had zero offers coming out of high school. Guess which one I think is the better.
