An integral part of the T-B experience, the Pride Pep Bands have been selected. Tryouts were held over the past two days and the roster of pep band members was released today.

Basketball season that much closer.

Proud to say my son made the Men's BBall Pep Band. He was hoping for the Lady Vols (actual trip to the Dance expected,) but he'll have to settle for hoping Barnes works some magic.

Ask your son if he can make a request to PLEASE STOP PLAYING 'LIVING ON A PRAYER' BY BON JOVI during close basketball games.

Congrats, I know you're proud. I'd rather play for the Men's BB and them lose every game than play for the LV even if they made the championship lol. That's just me though, because I find women's basketball a huge snooze fest.

They have try outs now? Times have changed. I was in both way back when. I enjoyed the Lady Vols far more than the men, but then again, that's when Wade Houston was coach, so it's understandable.

Speaking of the band, I saw on the FF that the band director shut it down after the Arkansas loss before playing the TN Waltz. Reason given was because Ryder had an issue with the drum major.

Between that and the suspension and replacement of the Director a couple of years ago, the POTSB has been having more drama in a few years than maybe the previous five decades combined.

It's very small beans compared to what's going on elsewhere. Ohio State's marching band is a damn dumpster fire of liability issues and has had multiple candidates withdraw from the search for a new director.

I did three years in the BB band, then two in alumni BB band. There's nothing like it.

As an alum, I can say it was because he was tired of the football team. He has since apologized to the alumni and I guarantee that it'll never happen again.

And as the other poster said, nothing happening with the Pride has any weight to what is going on at Ohio State. Don't try to make it bigger than it is.

And you act like this is so bad, you obviously don't remember what happened in the mid 90s to Sparks.

No I don't remember Sparks... what happened?

I do think that it's pretty bad that they didn't play the TN Waltz for whatever reason... that isn't the forum for their drama.

One other thing that rubbed me the wrong way was when, I think, Sousa was suspended and when the band marched out the stood there remaining silent for 15-30 seconds apparently in protest. If it would have gone on for another 10 seconds the crowd booing would have been pretty loud. Instead, they started to play just as the boos were getting wound up.

I'm one that prefers the band over the PA music and Sterl the Pearl. But I've been disappointed by these few incidents. I don't remember crap like that ever being displayed in all of the decades under Dr J Julian... thus I said there's been more recent POTSB drama than in several prior decades combined. I'm sure there has been plenty of behind the scenes drama, but it wasn't noticed by me. Again, what was the Sparks deal 20 years ago? Maybe once I hear about it it will jog my memory.

I always get to my seat with plenty of time to see the band start things off. Running through the T is awesome... chill bumps every time.

You don't like when the members of an organization stand up behind the leader they have known for years and to some is like a father to them? That whole situation was a big cluster f***, but I have no doubt that the AD is more to blame than anyone will ever know. My reasoning is that Sousa had a strict (and upheld) no-response policy. The members were not allowed to speak to media or anyone about the Pride unless it was cleared through the directors. He always put the good/integrity of the organization ahead of anything, but also defended his students. The fact that he lifted that policy and let any students talk to any part of the media is the most telling part to me. That is not to say he didn't have some blame. He did, and deserved what ultimately happened to him. But he wouldn't have done many of the things he did unless he felt he had no other way out.

And Sparks was caught mishandling $50k. He embezzled and just completely screwed the program. If you ever look at the book about the history of the Pride, he's not even mentioned because of his actions. That's pretty bad.

No, I don't like it when a support group for a near religious event uses a forum of 100,000, that are not there primarily to see them, make asses of themselves. They are putting their visions of self importance in ahead of the job that they are there to do. If they had a statement to make they should have boycotted one of their own concerts or elect to pass on a trip to an away game or worn buttons on their uniforms. Crapping on a football game tradition is not cool and IMO did nothing to improve their standing on their issues. They've certainly lost points with me. I'm far less likely to be supportive of whatever their issues are when they do these petty acts.

Hart IS a bully. Too bad though... he calls the shots on event management on game days and everything around the football games. I don't agree with some of his decisions with the Lady Vols. But he's losing some of those battles IMO and the Lady Vols did not have to boycott the start of any game to bring attention to their disputes. I'm betting that Hart will lose his job due to his behavior with those groups that he has to work with.

The POTSB looked tacky with their little protests. They should have more class... discipline is a big part of their tradition. They don't need to move in the direction occupied by bands like those clowns from UVa that attended the Sugar Bowl the last time that TN played a football game there. Not playing the TN Waltz is inexcusable.

Embezzling $50,000 is a totally different issue. The POTSB was simply a victim and there was not an organized effort to show their asses over it. I'm sure if they were about to miss attending an important event due to it, a small amount of effort could have resulted in somebody stroking a check to cover it.

While I'm at it... Living on a Prayer needs to disappear from ball games if it hasn't yet. That title is not appropriate.
