No remorse what-so-ever! Do you really want to re-inflate that ego to the outer-limits? There were not 50,000 people knocking down his door to hire him as some like to dream about. No D1 team worth their salt would want to hire him after the neglect he showed in his final 5 years. He's been rewarded enough with the $8M extra he took when they FIRED him. Everyone does know what FIRED means don't you?

So let's villify a guy who dared to have a bad season amid a coaching career which he won 75% of his games...including a NC that we haven't come anywhere close to sniffing since he left. Oh...but he didn't win one EVERY YEAR. Sheesh.

So he had ONE BAD YEAR in recruiting his last 5 when he was supposedly "slipping" so badly.

2004-11
2005-4
2006- 26..(yes..a bad year..send in the firing squad)
2007-3

Yes..Fulmer didn't live up to the Alabama level standards you all have of playing in the title game every year....but he's also the last damn coach to actually beat Alabama.

Basically ONE BAD YEAR in 2005....2008 the team was demoralized after the announcement Fulmer was gone at the end of the year.

So many here have zero appreciation for Fulmer but at the same time spew all this "VFL" bulls##t.....when NOBODY was more Vol than Phil Fulmer....a guy who singlehandedly brought the program back to national prominence.. A program that has been struggling mightily to get back to that ever since Phil left.

Blackburn will not be around that long. After what he has done at Chattanooga. He will be in consideration for every major AD until he is at a big school.

Saying he isn't qualified isn't "vilifying" him.

Plus the 2008 team was 3-6 BEFORE Fulmer's termination was announced. They then went 2-1 in the final three games.

Majors won as many SEC titles in his last 4 seasons as Fulmer did in his 16. He also won 5 more games in his final 4 years than Fulmer did in his final 4 seasons (34 to 29). It's not like Tennessee was a perennial loser when Fulmer took over.

Arguably, there has never been a better fundraiser at UT than Mike Hamilton. It's a big reason he was awarded the job of Director of Men's Athletics. However, Directing Athletics has important duties other than bringing in the buck$. Hamilton's disastrous tenure is a lesson in that.

> Communications and timing blunders which adversely impacted UT's reputation.
> Poor hiring searches, negotiations, and decisions. Talented candidates didn't want to work at UT under his watch.
> NCAA sanctions.
> Importune and ill-timed capital expenditures.
> Reductions in revenues & reserves.
> Burdensome, avoidable mistakes which weakened Tennessee's brand and finances.

AD is about a lot more than pulling in the buckola$. Davenport's desire to evaluate candidates with administrative experience and accomplishments is prudent.

i don't think anyone disagrees with the notion of being prudent.

but that's not the issue. there's a difference between being prudent, and being....well, incompetent.

and i'm not necessarily saying that about BD. but once approved by the BOT, why are we waiting until Feb 15 before it seems like anything will even start?

hart has been lame duck for 6 months. 4 more months of that. BD has been on the payroll for a month, yet aside from a glorified appearance at a bball game, she's been non existent in any capacity.

the need of a chancellor and AD have been knowns for a while now, and the fact that we're still spinning our wheels talking about search committee and search firms, and seemingly no idea whatsoever what direction we want to go in, AFTER 6 MONTHS OF KNOWING WE'D NEED A NEW AD...is just freaking inexcusable.

and i'll just say this about BD....she's on the payroll, and even if she can't be on site full time right now, her priority should be UTK, and she should be front and center leading. all she's done so far is take $25k/month for "transition costs", and waved a hand a bball game.

prudent? hardly.

Funny how you spin my characterization of Davenport's desire to evaluate candidates with admin experience as prudent into some notion that I'm advocating delay and indecision. You come across as a misogynistic political operative of some type. Misconstrue the comments of someone else.

Why did Phil let Chief get lazy and stop recruiting at the end of his tenure here?

Cut was the discipline and brought structure to the staff and team, and was CPF undoing when he took other jobs.

i don't think i was trying to misconstrue your comments at all. in fact, i basically agreed with you in my first line. and later acknowledged that it's not necessarily her fault.

just offering my opinion on the notion of this whole process....and i wouldn't characterize it as prudent. i didn't say she wasn't, or that she wouldn't/shouldn't be.

my comments had much less to do with what you said, vs. what this process, if you can call it that, has been up to this point.
