People upset over Phil

so blame Charlie Anderson?

If he had a hand in making the decision on Hamilton and subsequently Hart then yes.

I am not anywhere near the Blackburn or Bust train but there has to be qualified candidates out there that actually have the prerequisite experience.

Candidates that didn't let the inmates run the asylum then end up on the police blotters, lose focus in his goals, make terrible hiring decisions, and run a pretty well-oiled football machine run off the tracks have to be out there somewhere.

Fulmer's decision making was consistently terrible the second half of his career at UT.

Why so many feel he deserves a belated promotion after failing at his last job is beyond me. Being a supposedly nice guy and loving a school he once called nothing more than bricks and mortar isn't really the factors that should make him a shoo in. Simply voicing my opinion though.

More... during his decline,

I recall Phil locking out media from practices, and he held interviews in the hall outside of the practice area... I recall the media was getting close to figuring out he lost the team and lost his edge and drive. So, making him the AD is a bit of a puzzle... hell, I say we bring Johnny back too. He bleeds orange and Jack. Bring him back!!!!

I bet if someone talked to Bill Duff, he would say he loved UT as well.

May as well interview him for the job too LOL

I know David Blackburn and I know Coach Fulmer. Both of them would do a great job and my preference has frankly been Blackburn because he would be here longer. However there are not enough 0"s behind my donations to make my voice that important. I will point out that one of the main functions of the AD is to get the money to have good programs. I don't think anybody could get more out of donors than Coach Fulmer. If the AD is crossways with big donors the University is headed for trouble. Can you imagine the AD at Oklahoma State being at odds with T. Boone Pickens?

Hell no! You piss him off, he makes the football coach grow a mullet as revenge.

The AD is higher up on the formal org chart. That doesn't mean it's a promotion going from Head Football Coach to AD though.

AD's make the decision on hiring and firing coaches.

The salaries may be drastically different but that doesn't change the fact that Fulmer failed at the job he had previously at UT and is now in line to get a job higher up the organizational chart.

Fulmer having oversight on compliance issues is an absolute joke. Nothing in his experience since being fired has prepared him for that.

USATODAY.com - Is Tennessee football out of bounds?

Here's the thing...According to USA Today/Business Insider as of Oct. 13th, 2016 we rank 9th out of the top 25 schools that make the most money in college sports. Of the 8 schools ahead of us only one, Ohio State brings in more money than our Men's basketball team and our women' team is #1 in terms of income out of all the schools on this list, Fla. State is the only one close.

The question is, why wouldn't someone with experience be interested in this job?

According to that article donations are at 33.4 million compared to #5 (on the list) Alabama's 29.4 million.

Why did we lose out on Charlie Strong? He went to Texas eventually. Why did we lose out on Michael White? He ended up at Florida. Now we've lost out on Greg Byrne, one of the hottest AD's in the country to Alabama.

Money isn't the issue. Facilities aren't the issue. Fanbase spending money and boosters donating isn't the problem.

The problem is the leadership and their collective lack of vision for UT Athletics. All Athletics.

I'm sorry. When you are top ten in the country making money but 113th in the country at anything something is wrong. We shouldn't be last in the conference in any sport and we should be doing much better than we are currently across the board but...

It's one train wreck after another with the people that run this show and it would be funny if it wasn't so F'n sad.

Neither Blackburn or Fulmer or either of the two guys with ties to Cincinnati should be first on the list but here we are...

A completely absent tee administration, with no imagination or vision. Coaches and administrators all over the country know it, which is why we're hiring the Donnie Tyndall's of the world. Completely inept leadership with bickering factions of people who WOULD NEVER RUN THEIR OWN BUSINESS LIKE THIS.

Rant ended.

Dammit.

Don't forget about missing out on Bill Self and Gregg Marshall.

I like Coach Fulmer...maybe as an assistant AD or some specially created position.........but David Blackburn is by far the most qualified candidate and he has Tennessee ties too.

Yeah, there's nothing to base this on.

It's my understanding that the most important responsibility of an AD is raising funds. You don't think he would be good at that?

I'm not a fan of this hire, but WTF do I know.

I just keep hoping that they get this worked out so blackburn and phil both have a spot win win all around!

If you will remember the LSU verses Florida mess last year it was the AD's from both schools that handled that. :)

Exactly.
Leave this to us experts but feel free to take notes.

There is no way to know if we will do good or not. Nothing is ever a sure thing, look at our baseball team.

But it seems a lot of fans always assume the worst and considering Tennessee Athletics top to bottom are at pretty much an all time low. How can he do much worse?

So I understand you always assume the worst.
We have lost our winning culture, hopefully the man who has brought us 1 of our 2 national championships, and has one of the best records as a HC is the man to do it. It time will tell.

You're too young to understand Tennessee in bad years. That aside, there is an over riding reason that Fulmer should not be the next AD. Phil has been great for UT. He was a great coach and even better man. The reason that he should not be the next AD is the same reason for his downfall as a head coach, he is much to loyal.

Had he been willing to fire coaches quicker he might have still been our head football coach. During his 16 years as our head coach he fired one coach. When he promised a high school QB out of North Carolina that he would be our starting QB he kept that promise and it hurt us.

We do not need an AD that is that loyal to the coaches throughout the athletic department.

Initially, I was pretty upset about the possibility of Fulmer getting the AD job. I honestly don't know what to think though. The girl that has season tickets next to mine works for the athletic department at ETSU. She's also a total babe, but that's beside the point. She knows Phil pretty well from having worked on campus with him in Johnson City the past couple years. I called her today to get her take on how she thought Fulmer would do running a program as big as Tennessee. She was pretty optimistic. She said that everyone at ETSU was ecstatic with the job he did in building the football program. She also said that he had been vital in fundraising the money to build their new stadium. None of this means much... But it was nice to hear that everyone at ETSU has been happy with the things Fulmer has done there.
