People need to not say dumb things like Appy St should be ranked. They need to take a hard look at what you just saw. Same stuff as past years out there. Appy St. just took advantage of our ridiculously dumbass mistakes. Jalen Hurd looked like a second rate RB, no strength to break through very small defensive players. Dobbs was completely underutilized as a dual threat. The only time he ran was when he was running backwards and poor poor decision making. Where the heck was the passing game we were supposed to have? Where was the experienced offensive line? Experienced obviously doesn't correlate to good.

The defense was pretty good, but that's in light of how horrendous the offense was.

I really don't understand how you show up flat on opening night when you are supposed to be world beaters. Reminds me of Dooley's teams. Embarrassing. Next week needs tof be 180 degrees different or the rest of the year will shape up to be very tough to witness.

Look another roach from the wood work..
How else do teams get ranked?

By wins?....11-2 last year returning 16-17 starters.
That team is good. We won ... Stop ur long useless threads.

I saw more of the same from what i saw last year, even some that regressed. Dobbs looks about the same, Kamara looked worse, and Hurd is still 6' 4" 245lbs of soft serve that gets shoe string tackled and has no burst.

They shouldn't be ranked. There, feel better? Look at their rankings from last year on defense. They are a fine defensive team with some good talent. They played conservative keep away football and smash mouth defense. This is not a litmus of things to come. It was a fine effort by a good football team.

I'd love for App State to run the table from this point, end up 11-1, champions of the Sun Belt conference, and ranked somewhere around #15. Would thrill me to see that.

And it doesn't hurt the Vols one bit for that to happen, either. In fact, helps us quite a bit if App State's year plays out that way.

Go Mountaineers!

p.s. They're a scrappy team who showed us what for tonight, even if we did get the W. My hat's off to them for their grit and hustle.

Sure but it won't help when we have 4-5 losses.we cannot compete in the SEC with the showing we saw tonight.

Damn man. This is truly harsh. I respect your 1st amendment but how can you call yourself a Vol fan with this degree of vitriol?

OMG! Please just STOP! App State is a very good football team.11-2 last year was no fluke..Personally I was hugely disappointed in UT's performance tonight and hoped for a much better showing. But I will gladly take the win and move on. But IMO opinion App St will win the Sun Belt Conference and win at least 9 games with a nice bowl at season's end to go along with a spot in the Top 25.

Everything that you think App. St. is, UT should be 10 times better than that.

They were 11-2, and the 1 good team they played, Clemson, beat the crap out of them.

Even considering all that we should have won by 28.

Even if App. St. does all that you think they will, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Georgia and TAMU will all have better years than that. UT is not prepared, plain and simple.

App State won 11 games last year. Won their bowl game. Just took the #9 team to OT on the road.

I honestly still have no idea how good they are, but Saying they should be ranked isn't exactly outrageous.

Seems like many posters were laughing at the notion that App St. would even hang around; now suddenly they are awesome and this is the best thing that could have happened.

As if people would be saying how awful it was if we had won 45-3.

Yes, Dobbs did connect on one long downfield play but he is prone to throwing interceptions. The one interception he threw should have never been thrown (under-thrown at that) while scrambling to his right. Our passing game still sucks.

I still say the touchdown that was called incomplete was a bad call. He had control of the ball until he hit the ground.

Give credit to coming back in the second half but Dobbs fumble into the endzone should have been recovered by App State as they had 4 players around the ball; still, I'm thankful for the W. I certainly hope this is a wake-up call.
