We are how we are which is excellent on offense

we don't "need" to run the ball any better than we have

it would be nice but it probably won't happen and IT IS NOT NEEDED

It'd be nice to be able to pick up the short yardage situations when we wanted to though. To me, that's the most disappointing aspect.

i hate to compare this, but think of it kind of like the patriots offense...there short passing game is just as good as a running game.

if our offense produces half of the passing and rushing yards that we have through two games of this season, we beat florida.

And having our starter average 5 YPC and having a total of nearly 200yds rushing isn't good enough for you?

Can you read? Better yet, can you interpret what I typed? Short yardage situations. I'd like to see us be able to line up, blow people off of the LOS and pick up the first down. Said nothing about our ypc or our total yards.

It is in the SEC though. Since 2004, there hasn't been a team win the SEC, that has finished worse than 3rd in the conference in total rushing yards. In fact, only twice has the #1 rushing team in the conference not made it to the SECCG since then, and 5 out of the 8 games played since then, the team who finished higher in total rushing yards, won the game. Only 3 teams of the 16 that made it to the SECCG, have been ranked lower than 4th in the conference in rushing, and in 3 out of those 8 games, the 1st and 2nd ranked teams that season in rushing played each other.

So, yes, rushing matters, and there isn't anyway around that.

Were going to have to run the ball. It's the best tool to wear you opponents out mentally and physically late in the game. Yea were damn good offensively but we have to have a rushing attack in the SEC.

Thread is misinformation to the highest degree. What's next? No need to have a kicker either??!!

trends are made to be bucked...prior to Spurrier at UF this was a running league...Spurrier came in and rocked the boat and changed the culture...I agree we need to be adequate at running the ball but with our weapons at WR and QB we don't have to be dominant on the ground to win. However, we could stand to improve defensively...which I think will be a bigger problem for us this year...I think we have solid personnel and a good DC but I anticipate it taking most of the year for the players to get comfortable with the new system.

UF's teams still were good rushing teams, even with the air attack they had.

We don't have to be dominant, but our running game has to exist. It hasn't the last few years against SEC teams and that's one of the main reasons we haven't won many SEC games.

...right and at this point we seem to have an adequate running game. I don't recall UF having a "strong/good" rushing attack. It moved the chains but they were always a pass first offense. I do believe we need a better RB...no Fred Taylor on our roster.

I think you can have a successful season as a pass first team. Use the spreading of the defense to run. You don't have to use the run to open up the pass. I agree, in the SEC you have to be able to put up some yards on the ground, but being 1 dimensional will get you beat.

Agreed that we don't need to be a running juggernaut to win (especially given our abilities passing the ball); we have the talent to get ahead of most teams, even those w/ an SEC caliber defense...

However, to protect the lead and run clock, we'll need a consistent running game capable of stringing together 1st downs in the 2nd half.

From what we've seen so far, I think we're capable of doing just that, especially if we can effectively mix in a bit of play action. I hope they don't prove me wrong in a week...
