Penny Hardaway still crying

A Guy trying to divert attention away from his utter Failure as a Coach.....and Penny Hardaway sound a lot alike!??!
JMO!

How is he an utter failure? Took over a team that was a dumpster fire (it's why the previous coach was fired). The leftover players he is having to play are the same ones that lost to not 1, but 2, sub 300 teams last year, one a 25 point loss at home. Penny signed a Top 30 class in his first 3 weeks, signed the #11 class for next year, and is playing a schedule that is 2000 times more difficult than last year. The team was picked to finish 8th in the conference and is currently 5th. Kenpom rating to start the season was in the 130 range, and it's now 83. I'd wait til next year when he has a complete roster of players he actually wants before deeming him a failure.

Memphis went 21-13(10-8) last year which was good enough for 5th in AAC and Memphis fans wanted Tubby gone ASAP.

Penny is 13-10(5-5) which has them 6th in the AAC and you’re here applauding the job he’s done?

Take a look at the schedules and entire picture. 21-13 last year was against the likes of Samford, Incarnate Word, and a bunch of directional schools. OOC schedule last year had 0 ranked teams (Bama, LSU, Louisville) on it, and 1 NCAA tournament team on it - Alabama. This years schedule includes 3 ranked teams ( UTK, Texas Tech, LSU), 2 2018 tournament teams (South Dakota State, Charleston) and Oklahoma State. The only reason Memphis finished 5th last year is because UCF and SMU, both projected to be NCAA tournament teams at the beginning of the season, suffered injuries to multiple starters that derailed their seasons. Memphis went 1-2 versus these depleted teams. If UCF and SMU are healthy, Memphis finishes 7th or 8th.

Before Tubby, Memphis had never lost to a Kenpom team ranked 250 or lower. He lost to 2 sub 300 teams in the same season. Tubby was recruiting more slaw players for coming years that resembles the seniors on the roster now. NONE of these seniors, except for Martin, would have been offered scholarships by the current coach or previous 2 coaches. Martin was a 2* local kid that was a throw in of Pastner's #2 recruiting class.

If Tubby had been retained, Memphis would be 8-15 playing in front of 500 people in the Forum, Wiseman and Jeffries are signed to Kentucky, and Memphis is continuing to get beat out by TCU, UAB, and Wichita State for Memphis kids. So yeah, EVERYONE is applauding the job Penny has done 9 months into getting the job.

Question: Were you happy with St. Rick's first 2 seasons at UTK when he was a loser and .500? Or, did you realize that he had to cycle some of the old players out, recruit his own, and develop his program?

sure would like for penny to concentrate on coaching is team.
If he would win some games it would help our RPI....and NCAA NET.

First of all - TL;DR. I don't even know that Memphis fans would read all of your keyboard diarrhea. I'll save my reading time for teams that have a chance of being on the bubble this year.

Second of all, the more you type, the more it becomes obvious that you're trying to convince yourself that Penny doesn't suck more than you're trying to convince us. It's a little pathetic.

Please continue enjoying the losing streak. I'm glad you're a fan of one of college basketball's blueblood schools.

The most well-thought and logical post you've ever made.

Penny after UT game: “they came running over and were scary looking with balled up fists. I know my guys would never talk trash they’re such good kids”

Penny after losing track of all the city-state and directional schools their joke of a conference has to offer for competition : “we need to be tougher”

The dude doesn’t have it upstairs. AAU material

Cincy is now, and has been since Bob Huggins was coach, one of the toughest programs from a culture standpoint. Their players grind you down and usually don't beat themselves. Same can be said for this version of the Vols. He's wanting his team to play that way and not give games away in the last 7 minutes (up 11 on Texas Tech with 7 to go, up 6 on LSU with 5 to go, up 5 on Charleston with 5 to go, up 11 on Cincy with 12 to go). The seniors continue to take bad shots at critical times, get beat for loose balls, turn it over, and get beat for rebounds. They simply aren't good or tough enough to close out games. The players that will replace these guys next year are Top 75 players that are better players, bigger, faster, and more skilled. It will be different.

As far as the toughness of the AAC, you realize there are 6 schools with multiple trips to the Final Four to the SECs 5. A total of 7 AAC teams and 7 SEC teams have made it to the Final Four. The conference has 2 teams ranked in the Top 25, which is 1 fewer than the mighty SEC.

You realize that a little ol AAC team won a National title 5 years ago and has owned mighty Kentucky in recent history at the Final Four, right?

And the AAC will get ... two teams in the tournament this year?

Yeah. Super tough conference.

Dude. I literally have to google your trash conference to keep up with who has active membership... Congrats on having one member with a national title within the past 50 years. UConn is a decimated program and would trade their collective Left nut to dump your alliance.

Its cute that you include vacated appearances in your little tally.....

Penny's immaturity hurts his team. The after game theatrics and whining paints him as a sore loser. A great player with a great basketball career doesn't equate to a great Coach. IMO he needs to stop the personal stuff and focus on building a team which plays hardnose basketball together. Another words stop making excuses and worrying about the other team but focus on building Memphis basketball.

I will say that the OOC schedule last year was much easier. With their remaining schedule, they will probably finish 10-8 in conference. It hasn’t been an utter failure. He has done about what is expected, but he hasn’t won a game where he was an underdog either, thus, the on floor coaching hasn’t been anything great.

So, since 4 schools in the AAC have been to a FF more than 25 years ago, they are just as good of a conference? Yikes.

Then, you have East Carolina, Tulane, SMU, and UCF, who are historically terrible at basketball.

When trolling the #1 UTeam in the Nation's board and your program is a laughingstock...

Happy and I'm smiling
Walk a mile to drink your water
You know I'd love to love you
And above you there's no other
We'll go walking out
While others shout of war's disaster
Oh, we won't give in
Let's go living in the past
Once I used to join in
Every boy and girl was my friend
Now there's revolution, but they don't know
What they're fighting
Let us close our eyes
Outside their lives go on much faster
Oh, we won't give in
We'll keep living in the past
Oh, we won't give in
Let's go living in the past
Oh no, no we won't give in
Let's go living in the past

Because it matters. There's a reason certain programs are considered Elite (Duke, UK, KU, Carolina), it's what they've done over history.
No team in the AAC is elite, so it doesn't particularly matter. You are just spitting out individual hand-chosen facts that make it seem like it matters.

These aren't "hand chosen" facts. They are simply facts. UConn has won more titles since 1999 (20 years) than any other program. The only school in the last 30 years with more, is Duke. UConn has won the same number of titles as Duke, Nova, and UNC in the last 10 years - 2. This, by definition, characterizes them as an elite program. They missed the tournament 2 straight years and they fired the coach. They are rebuilding and will be a contender within the next year or so. This doesn't erase them from being Elite. Just like UTK being #1 in February of 2019 doesn't make them part of the club.

It's funny that a fanbase of a school that has 1 Elite 8 appearance and is having a good year, thinks a school with 2 titles in the last 10 years, and 1 less than Duke in the last 30, isn't elite. Consider this, there are over 90 schools that have made a Final Four. There are over 50 that have made multiple Final Fours. Schools like Loyola-Ill, Wichita State, Providence, Temple have been to 2. How is it that the mighty Vols haven't made 1 in over 100 years of basketball?

Just some of the "hand chosen" facts:

1990-current (last 30 years)

Duke - 5 Titles
UConn - 4 Titles
Kentucky - 3 Titles
UNC - 3 Titles
Nova - 2 Titles
Florida - 2 Titles

2009-current (last 10 years)
UConn - 2 Titles
Duke - 2 Titles
Nova - 2 Titles
UNC - 2 Titles
Kentucky - 1 Title

As expected, your response has chosen to focus on an erroneous idea that no one has voiced; that Tennessee fans consider ourselves as an elite program.

I don't care what UCONN did in the past, because the majority of it happened as a member of the Big East. The fact that the AAC formed and inherited them as a member institution 5 years ago when the original Big East disbanded doesn't matter much because as a member of the AAC, they have exactly 2 NCAA appearances since the creation of the AAC, one which led to a title the year after joining. Almost their entire history predates any affiliation with Memphis, and let's face it, that's what you are doing here; you are attempting to bolster Memphis' profile on the back of UCONN's accomplishments because the Tigers' play on the court can't do it, right now.

UCONN was an elite program just like the Lady Vols were an elite program. That time has passed in the same way it has for UCLA's men. Me being a Tennessee fan doesn't make that more or less true, so you can drop the cute, "It's funny how fans of a program with one E8 appearance..." act. I just really don't care.
