You wanna explain to me where I am defending Fulmer in this? Im questioning the integrity of a newspaper...if its a true story then Ill back down. Hell if the content of the story were what upset me, then I would stay upset with some of the posters on here.
I just dont like message board fodder being shoved in my face as NEWS.
It sounded like he also cut-out some "negative" observations when he could not get corroboration from people who he knows have been back to visit the program/facilities. Assuming that Coach Long is correct in stating that the only guys who have come back are the NFL players, then I would assume that some of Pennington's corroborating sources are current/former NFL guys. The only gripe I have with the Pennington "story" is that while he also found "sources" which disagreed with the opinions he presented, he cut those from the piece... trying to create this as factual statements, when they are actually all opinions.
WOW! Go turn on ESPN and listen to how many times John Clayton, Sal Palentonio, Chris Mortenson and all the guys use "sources". It's the same for the magazines too.
I agree. But what are they reporting from their sources? "A source with the Dolphins told me that DE Jason Taylor will not start today..."
"A source from inside the team says that the Giants are looking to trade Gabril WIlson to the..."
oh...these are examples of how they use their sources. There is something to actually report.
What exactly was the JP report about again?
Not in the least. Heck Id even give them my name, as well as a alot of others on here. They also do this about coaches who might gat fired etc. Why aren't you screaming about them revealing their sources even if the story ends up not being true?
Again the story was what JP heard from former players. Not if they were right or wrong, but simply concerns those players had. That's it, that's the story.
I'll ask you again what if JP did this story with fans instead of players? Would you still be questioning the story so much.
Well, if the story is true GA, then someone he lets hang out around the program is under cutting his authority. Talk about cancer on a team. It's definitely crap journalism, but with that being said . . . I don't think there was any point to CPF getting all that upset about it. By now he should be used to the National Enquirer wannabes that masquerade as sportswriters.

But then, we arent "close to the program"..or at least some of us arent. I dont stand to lose rubbing elbows with people inside the program if I criticize what someone is doing.
What I do criticize is a piece being published in a newspaper, citing nothing but unnamed sources. If that didnt warrant a challenge, I really dont know what should.

Who else is there to question? Penningtons was the only name mentioned in his article! Is it a valid story (someone like Al Wilson, Charlie Garner, Manning being the anonyVols)? Someone who I would highly trust and whose opinion mattered to me? Or are they the opinions of the James Banks, Lynn McGruder or Charlie Dinkledorf (played as a walkon during the 2000-2003 seasons and never got a shot at a scholarship)?
NO ONE is being held accountable for the statements made. Since JP isnt giving up his sources and the KNS stands by JP, then JP and the KNS need to be challenged.
(btw Dinkledorf isnt a real person as far as I know, just a name made up to make a point)
entertainment reporters have the same bad rap. I think he means those that cover Iraq, the White House, drugs, police blotter, etc
