Pennington and Hyams: Fulmer could return as Coach

Gretzky didn't have good talent in Phoenix, but his players consistently looked poorly prepared, poorly disciplined, and gave poor effort. If he'd been coaching the Red Wings, his team would have been a bunch of extremely talented guys....who were poorly prepared, poorly disciplined, and who would probably have given subpar effort. Gretzky was every bit the leader on the ice that Manning is of the Colts, and yet he couldn't instill any of that into his players as a coach. You can't just assume as a given that Manning would be able to either.

You're extrapolating success at one job and saying that you'd be guaranteed success at completely different job in the same field. It's like taking a great photographer and hiring him as a VP of marketing. It's not the same thing at all.

well brother i have the nhl network and watched my share of phoenix games.gretzky is better than your average nhl coach.won plenty of games when his team was outmanned.

coaching is all about the talent.do you honestly believe saban would have finished any better than 7-5 w/ our team (no way).

success at one job/field has been accomplished many times by great leaders in other fields/jobs. (dont get out much) try reading money magazine, you will be shocked at some of the career makeovers.

ask obama, went from a fundraiser to,well you know the rest (popularity sells my friend)

The players were forced to learn on the job, unfortunately. They hadn't been taught football since high school.

do you need some cheese or just hug?

ill send you some cheese, you are on your own for the hug :)

This from the guy with half his posts as complaints about Kiffin changing his sweatshirt during the Auburn game.

your in a battle you cant win, give up!your out gunned and your ship is sinking :birgits_giggle:

but merry christmas anyway :hi:

Did anyone catch Chris Vernon in Memphis talking with Clay Davis today? Vernon sounded like the biggest alabama homer.

I'm not sure which is more idiotic: Penny and Hyams's idea expressed in the original post or the fact that some of you guys actually listen to the Sports Animal.

Of course career makeovers happen all the time. But it's rare that somebody walks away from the top of his profession at one job, and is hired right straightaway at the top of a different profession by somebody else, which is what you're advocating with this Manning nonsense.

And coaching is NOT "all about the talent." That's half of it. If accumulating talent were all that mattered, Fulmer would have won more than two SEC championships. Clearly accumulating talent is a sine qua non, but in a conference in which four or five teams pull a top 10 recruiting class every year, you have to be able to coach the guys you bring in.

I think we all took for granted that this staff was going to be able to recruit. What we didn't know is how well they could coach, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. The most impressive thing that Kiffin has done so far is not pulling Bryce Brown to Knoxville, IMO; it's what he did with Jonathan Crompton.

didnt fulmer put his name in for Louisville and ND. I read where he has his agent out looking for a Major College . He wont take a Mid Major job like Cincy. or one of those teams in a small conference. He looks goofy on CBS sports like he doenst know what to do with his hands

He sounded just as bad a week or so ago on Nashville's 104.5 The Zone talking about the Florida v. Boise St. Sugar Bowl game :wacko:

not the same at all, your buying pro players and recruiting college atheletes.so basically your saying gretzky would lose with the red wings (right)

please, please, please dont try and convince anyone that kiffin would be a better hire than manning.that dog just wont hunt!

kiffin is far from a experienced coach.his best attribute was his contacts to hire the right staff (some gone now) to rebuild this team.your saying manning could not have assembled the same if not better?who would have more influence in a recruits living room, kiffin or manning (be honest now) its not even close.mom and pop going goo goo gaa gaa and even granny brown would be singing his praises

after reading this thread I am completly convinced that POSIVOL is retarded when it comes to knowing anything about football. To say that manning would be a better Hire than CLK is ridiculous.

NEWSFLASH- mannning is a starting QB in the NFL, upon retiring would need to get experience as a QB coach and offensive Coordinator before even thinking about a HC job.Lane kiffin has been coaching for 10+ years, proved his abilities coaching at a national powerhouse in USC, learned under Monte kiffin and Pete carrol, got this team into a bowl game and has a top 5 class coming in next yr.

Posivol, i know you miss Fulmer and I see all the time that guys on this board are always ganging up on you and making fun of your post and why i laughed, i never though you stated anything so outlandish to warrant the responses, BUT the post you made in this thread are EPIC and i now have to agree with the masses.

You may be a smart person but Sir you know nothing about football.

ill be happy when manning takes over :hi:
I'll give you every one of your dozens of strawmen you have set up in this thread. I'll even agree that Manning would have been a better selection than Coach Kiffin. He could have had his choice of recruits. He could have brought great positive attention to the program. He could probably have lured great coordinators from the NFL.

There is just one little problem. That ain't gonna happen. Maybe in five or six years when he is finished in the big show. So since you are going to be miserable for at least that long, please do us all a favor and suffer in silence.

dude,no offence intended, after reading many of your very long posts (rants) im unsure where (if any) your expertise lies ? very confusing.

best i can figure is you are fasinated by clk,s metoric rise to semi stardom (its just a crush) it will pass in time.

seems to be the trend w/ alot of posters who have failed or yet to acheive their goals in life (lets ride clk,s coat tails and pretend it is us) :dance2: who hoo

trust me,never ever make a statement like you did above.any credibility you may have had was wiped out forever (theres no getting it back) you have been found out to be a fraud. (sorry to be harsh) it could be the meds.by the way merry christmas.

ok,for 1 we all know peyton is currently employed and were refering to his retirement days.

manning has 10 years running indys offense, which by the way has won more games in a decade than any team in the history of the nfl.to question his offensive prowness shows a lack of respect for his talent.please remember he is a u.t. boy.would you really want him to see posts from vn saying he wouldnt make a good coach for u.t. (not very smart)

look i luv monte (wasnt exactly tearing it for tampa bay when he left) but in reality lanes no monte.

pete,oh yeah he had a great year w/ what 75 five star players (kidding) but you get my drift.more talent than fulmer ever had and way way underacheived.would we give him a free pass or be saying dadgum always loses to a team we shouldnt (stanford-oregon-oregon state=ucla) take your pick! he consistantly underacheives just like fulmer.

so basically we have a coach who was trained by a fulmer type underacheiver with a famous dad he was able to bring on staff for (1.5 million).

if your gonna argue w/ me.your gonna have to step it up,put some teeth in your post.

stating manning would need experiance as a qb coach and oc just killed you.did he need experiance hosting saturday night live (nope) did he need experiance to become a 100mill+ sports spokeperson (nope).does he need a coach to call in his plays and set every qb record in the history of the game (nope)

hes a savant dude,he could come to your work for 2 days and do your job better then you ever have.

i doubt you will ever understand this, but i can hope :hi:
