Penn State

I have no idea what would motivate him to walk into that mess. Bama fanbase maybe?
DeBoer was asked straight up about Penn State in yesterday's media appearance and he was very clear there had been no conversations and he isn't going anywhere. If he were to all of a sudden leave it would make him a bigger liar than Lane Kiffin.

Yeah, but Kiffin would just up the ante and plead in a long press conference with LSU to believe he's not jumping to Alabama and go directly from the conference room to the airport to Tuscaloosa.

Its pretty funny that they have coached against the same number. Franklin has spent more time coaching, all of it in the P4; and yet played against the same number as Campbell has in the Big 12. thats pretty telling.

Matt Campbell coached at Toledo for 4 years, and Iowa State for 10 years.
Franklin was at Vandy for 3 years, and Pedd State for 12 years.

Campbell has a slightly better record vs. top 25 with a fraction of the talent.
He would be an upgrade over Franklin if they can somehow pull that off.
Lot of people don't realize how historically pitiful Iowa State is. They have exactly one 10 win season in their history. Similar to Vandy.
What Campbell has done there is very good.

Still averaging over 9 wins a season without him, including a playoff berth. He's certainly still something.
In a dog crap conference. He’s losing to the likes of Syracuse, NCSU, Pitt. He’d be a 3-4 loss team annually in the SEC, even with some of his better teams. The ACC was so pathetic during his run that he had teams that went 90 guys deep playing an entire games worth of snaps over the course of the year due to blowouts. Nobody in the SEC can build that level of depth because your starters can’t sit enough to give the bench guys that much run.

I mean, there is precedent for a coach doing OK at Iowa State and going on to win a NC at another P4 program and rebuilding another from the ground up.

I'm assuming most know who I am referring to ......

He continually has put guys into the NFL at a rate similar to the Bamas, UGAs, and OSU. So lets stop this narrative that Clemson was overrated in his run. He had elite teams with elite players. Only recently with his aversion to the portal and NIL has he started to slip.

.......and most of those NFL bound players would have signed with TN the decade before or most likely now

The fact that Clemson rose at the same time UT fell was not a coincidence.

Even if he adjusts, Dabo has a tough row to hoe with us back up and running.

...and we wouldn't have been all that good if Alabama, UGA, and LSU were better in the 90s. There's an ebb and flow to the game that I don't think really diminishes what he's done there.

It all changed after Venables was gone.

Campbell’s similar record actually speaks volumes to his coaching acumen or is a major indictment on Franklin’s. He’s doing the same thing with infinitely inferior talent and resources than what Franklin had.

Its going to suck going to a non competitve CyHawk game without Campbell there.

Losing arguably the best DC in the nation certainly has hurt him. As was losing Tony Elliot the same off-season. They've still performed well up until this year, even if they haven't quite been the elite squad they were 4-5 years ago.
