Penn State

I don't get what's going on with Penn State. They were the first to fire their coach in James Franklin. Now he's at Virginia Tech. All these other schools are filling their vacancies while the Nittany Lions keep getting turned down. Who the hell is running that coaching search up in Happy Valley is what I am wondering.
Espn Media!! They influence people and were right about "Penn State shouldn't have fired Franklin"

Is giving a masterclass in how not to run a coaching search. It’s pretty clear they had no plan after firing Franklin. I guess they just assumed people would be lining up and begging for the job. They’re at the point where they may be forced to remove the interim tag from Terry Smith and give him the job on a full time basis.
This whole thing is hilarious to me. Maybe they can get Brian Kelly they deserve him.😝

24/7 sports now has them at 144 with 3 recruits. Behind Army and just ahead of ND ST andUAB. This is turning into a major disaster for them. It may take them a couple of years or more to recover even if they hire an unknown superstar.
if they get a good transfer portal class it will definitely offset this class.

This "recruiting class" is a Ball Don't Lie death penalty for the Sandusky-Paterno 💩

Word on the street is the existing players on the roster are chomping at the bit to bolt out the door as soon as the portal opens.

Bro, these kids were in diapers when all of that broke and were not even born when it all went down.

While it's fun to kind of laugh at the downfall of a traditional power, let's have a flashback to 2009 shall we. Or possibly to our abortion of a coaching search in 2017. We are living in that glass house and throwing stones my friend.

Everything now with player is $$ and PSU has money.

I would hold off on celebrating their downfall just yet. I could probably average 8 wins a season there with their built in schedule advantages.

How you gonna feel if they steal Heupel? That might be a possibility now and will screw us

The kids were in diapers, but karma remembered. I seriously doubt Heupel is going up there to coach a three-man recruiting class after bagging Brandon, Keys, Bey, etc. If Heupel wanted to coach at Penn State, he would've gone there before signing day to salvage a recruiting class, not let it completely fall apart and then go there.

Heupel rebuilt UT from chaos and I doubt he wants to do it again. Sure, money talks and sure, the Vandy loss obviously stung him but it's obvious from our signing day success that he's getting to work and getting the support from the people that matter ($$$$) at UT.

Penn State has top down problems like we had and money cannot fix bad leadership.

If they come for Danny White AND Josh Heupel, yikes!

Unfortunately, it isn't a foregone conclusion that this will end up being a disaster it'll take years to recover from because of the Portal. Of course portaling in dozens of guys and having them gel into a good team is a tall task, but it is theoretically possible when 5 years ago they'd be guaranteed to be screwed for a while.

They also somehow inexplicably never had a major down period after the Sandusky scandal.

Is Penn State really bathing in gold coins and $100 bills? West Virginia dropped a bag this morning to get Sieg over Penn State, Virginia Tech, and Pitt. WV reportedly offered $500k with the other three offering him only $250k.

247 has Penn State ranked 25th with $386 million in NIL money for football with B1G contender Oregon ranked #1 with $969 million, a massive gap. "The" Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa, Sparty, and Wisconsin have bigger NIL budgets than Penn State too. Granted, there are eight SEC teams with bigger bags than Tennessee, but Tennessee is still 14th nationally with a half billion and the gap isn't as massive.

Plus, Heupel replaced a coach who won three games his last full season. Whoever goes to Penn State will be replacing a coach who won 13 games his last full season. As delusional as our fans are, Penn State is taking vastly more potent shrooms than the ones we eat.

I have a crazy conspiracy theory regarding Pedo St and their coaching search.

Bama knows DeBoer isn't going to be a long term fit for them. So, Bama exits the playoffs early, say second round. They offer up DeBoer to Pedo St. even helping with his buyout to facilitate the move. Bama then hires Kiffin away from LSU (Kiffin would jump at that opportunity) which would essentially burn LSU's program to the ground in the process.

That would be fun to watch. 🤣

If Bama loses the SECCG and their first playoff game, especially if either loss is uncompetitive, I bet he starts planning his exit. I think DeBoer himself knows he isn't built for that job.

OK, so the current Pres and AD of PSU have been in office since May 2022. If Franklin was truly fired for losing three in a row (and not for unspoken reasons), then those two are cray cray, and you cannot blame coaches for being wary of the place.
The president there is a train wreck. She was at Louisville before PSU and ruffled a lot of feathers in a short period of time.

Oh I agree. When somebody floated the idea earlier this week, I said it would never happen

I do however think that whoever PSU gets is going to set off another round of chaos-unless they go the NFL route. I don't think those folks are going to be satisfied with a coordinator or some Bobby Google G4 coach.

And somehow this logic escapes too many people on this board who want Heupel gone.

Not saying that’s the reason PSU fired him, but unintended consequences happen when you don’t have a plan in place and act irrationally

Basically, OSU will continue to own the Big 10.

Despite its national championship and consistently high level of excellence, Ohio State has actually had limited success in the top tier of the Big 10. OSU hasn't won a Big Ten title since 2020 and its win over Michigan the other day was Ohio State's first win in the series since 2019. Oregon is the defending Big Ten champion, has the highest ranked recruiting class in the Big Ten this season, and has won two of the three games it's played against OSU since joining the B1G.

Penn State's mistake was not monkey branching. You know how married women usually don't file for divorce until they first lock down a guy earning more money? Penn State should've made certain it could get a better coach before it cut Franklin loose. Now, Penn State's the single mom sitting in the car on TikTok.
