Penn State Sanctions- recruits/transfers

"I've never seen anything as egregious as this in terms of just overall conduct and behavior inside a university and hope never to see it again," -NCAA president Mark Emmert on Penn State cover-up

It seems inevitable that Penn State is going to get hit by sanctions. Any chance we get back in on Hackenburg or other committed prospects? Or pick up transfers a la M. Jackson? Thoughts?

There may or may not be sanctions. This is new ground for the NCAA and they are slow movers by nature. Sanctions, if any, will hit long after incoming freshmen have played and likely after 2013 commitments have enrolled and played. Sorta pointless to speculate on picking up committed prospects.

Pretty sure the FOOTBALL program is under NCAA jurisdiction for FOOTBALL related incidents. This had everything to do with the football program, and therefore has plenty to do with the NCAA. Just like if a football program was being used to launder money or was using slaves instead of equipment managers, the NCAA would have every reason to punish them.

Penn State is a member of the NCAA, and the NCAA can boot a member (give the death penatly) if it deems fitting.

Not according to the EXPERTS who have been on ESPN all day. No NCAA RULE was violated. Heinous crimes certainly took place and if firing squads were in place, I'd be all for everyone involved getting a public execution. Doesn't change the fact that the NCAA has no place being involved...although they generally choose to be regardless...

I truly hope there is never an incentive to allow this behavior!!!!

One guy being fired/dying, one guy who may come to my prison until he dies (I'm a PA state prison counselor and my place has LOTS of sex offenders) and 3 others who will likely do LOTS OF time, to me, demonstrates that no incentive is in place.

Joe Pa is sick!!

Any man like myself with a son could care if he rots in Haities for covering up what he knew.

The whole story is sick & anyone that defends him needs to become a parent someday it will change there view!!!!!!!!!!

Any idea where sandusky will be going?

Any idea where sandusky will be going?

SHORT ANSWER:
PA's diagnostic classification center is in Camp Hill, PA, which is about an hour South of State College. From there, he could end up anywhere, although he will be a lower custody level inmate due to his age, lack of offense history, marital status, etc. My prison is a legitimate option. It's in Western PA about 15 miles from the Ohio line.

LONG ANSWER:
That's the million dollar question. I pesonally don't think there is any way they can keep him safe if he stays in PA. There is a LOT of anger and hate towards Sandusky, not only by many non-sexual offense inmate, but also by staff members. You can't understand the level of commitment and passion these people feel/felt towards JoePa. It transcends football (and perhaps there lies the problem). Sandusky is getting all of the blame for JoePa's downfall and ultimately his death. Now some are beginning to see that their beloved JoePa wasn't quite the saint he was made out to be, but it did all start w/ Sandusky and his actions. I thnk it's very possible that he could end up out of state, possibly in Virginia or Maryland.

Do you think Joepa overlooked a few things over the past 20 years because he was basically dead?

Is this really your first question? What recruits we might get because of what happened at penn st? Really?

I think we need to take a step back. In the grand scheme of things, football is not really that important.

They are a member institution and are charged with exercising control and conduct becoming of an NCAA institution. They violated both those. How is that not violating rules? They violated the two BIGGEST rules the NCAA has, from which all the other rules originate.

All parties involved with that situation are gone. Hell, even the statue may get removed. You'll see PSU distance itself from Paterno and the past over the next few years. The death penalty is over kill. This is not an NCAA matter.

It is a NCAA matter if they are covering up the child rape to protect the football program.

One group of "experts" strongly disagree with you, and they unquestionably trump all the talking heads you saw on ESPN or wherever. Emmert, the president of the NCAA, backed by the legal staff of the organization, wrote a letter to the president of PSU that cited a number of specific violations of NCAA rules by PSU including the lack of institutional control (LOIC) that is usually cited as the basis of all death penalty cases. In both that letter and in a statement made yesterday, Emmert specifically stated that the death penalty is in play.

When the president and AD of PSU were informed of the 2001 incident with Sandusky, they correctly decided that the authorities had to be informed about the crimes, but after talking with Paterno, they changed their minds and decided to cover it all up instead. That is textbook definition of a lack of institutional control -- when the coach overrules the president and the AD, then the coach is running the show rather than the president and AD, who the NCAA mandates are to oversee the football program. That is an open and shut violation of LOIC, the most severe violation of NCAA rules possible.

Folks here are in denial if they do not think the NCAA has any reason to be involved here. If you persist in not understanding it, you need only to read Emmert's letter. I personally cannot think of a situation that warrants the death penalty more than this one, and will be surprised and disappointed if that is not the ruling of the NCAA when all is said and done.

Agree. What makes it most egregious is that it wasn't really lack of institutional control. High ranking PSU officials controlled the entire cover up for a decade, allowing child rape to continue.

if molesting numerous kids on school property for more than a decade, including after the staff member had retired, and attempts to cover it by the heads of the school isn't grounds for the death penalty, then what is?

If they did all this sick crap for that long they should get the death penalty for that long......

2013 season will be the first season they would get the death penalty if they do indeed get it (which obviously they should). I'm sure they would allow players transfer and not have to sit out. Are there any current sophomores or even juniors we would be interested in?
