UCF was one of the worst teams for penalties and penalty yards per game the last 2 years.
So this could be ongoing issue.

But will they? Looks like a pattern with his teams.
This is a very concerning element in CJH's teams at UCF. It's one of those things which make me think, those penalties may not be an issue in other conferences, but that won't work in the SEC.
UCF ave 8 per game for 70 yrds.
Trying to so fast all the time. I'm just guessing, but I bet a majority of them were false starts and holdsThis is a very concerning element in CJH's teams at UCF. It's one of those things which make me think, those penalties may not be an issue in other conferences, but that won't work in the SEC.

We haven't received a lot of pre-snap penalties. A few for sure, but not a lot given the tempo we play at on offense. We had far to many just poor decisions. Mays late hit, banks tackle, Wright taking his helmet off. That stuff can't happen, that's 45 yards right there. The block in the back as well on the kick 6, that took 7 points and 100+ yards.
Just too many mistakes. We have to clean up penalties and turnovers. Honestly we did a lot of good things outside of that. Certainly enough things to win the game.

Like the Georgia game last year when we stopped them twice on critical third downs, only to be extended by unnecessary and stupid personal fouls. They scored touchdowns on both those drivesI've not done a deep dive, but I wonder what type of penalties UCF received to rack up those numbers? Were they procedural penalties, or were they holds, PI's, bad personal fouls, and other stupid poor play penalties?
I know we had some false starts on Saturday, but for the most part, I feel like the bulk of our problems were a result of poor decisions. 30 yards for Cade cleaning up the pile (which was atrociously stupid) and Banks doing his best Stone Cold impression. Then 15 for Flowers pushing a guy that would have needed to be Yao Ming to catch the pass he was defending. Banks then negates a touchdown with a block in the back. We got dinged for holding multiple times as well, and I presume those will continue.
The false start in the redzone on Wright was also Mays's fault, if my understanding is correct, as he clapped trying to tell Carvin not to snap the ball because the receivers weren't set. Well, problem is we clap to signal the snap. So, Wright heard the clap and started the play. Not good, but also somewhat understandable on Wright's part.
That said, the above four flags are all avoidable. Now, maybe they are just a horribly undisciplined bunch, but I didn't feel like we saw those sort of problems in game 1.
We won't get a good read next week, but we'll see if these problems continue to plague us in the Florida game.
It might. The team was hyped for the game Saturday. Generally, I think that is a great way to approach a game. I complained that Fulmer's teams looked unenthusiastic many times against UF.It might take Heupel a while to iron out the lack of discipline in some of our players who are prone to late hits
Other posters have said same. I bet if we looked at the specific penalties, your hunch would be confirmed.

I may have confused you. I was talking about the penalties over CJH's tenure at UCF.Penalties:
First Half:
1. Unsportsmanlike conduct (15 yards) - Darnell Wright taking off helmet
2. Holding (10 yard)
3. False Start (5 yards)
4. Pass Interference (15 yards)
5. False Start (5 yards ) - Darnell Wright
6. Unnecessary Roughness (15 yards) - Cade Mays late hit
7. Offensive Pass Interference (15 yards) - Tillman in the endzone
8. Unnecessary Roughness (15 yards) - Banks powerbomb
Second Half:
9. False Start (5 yards)
10. Holding (9 yards)
11. Pass Interference (15 yards)
12. Illegal Motion (5 yards)
13. False Start (5 yards)
We also had the Banks block in the back in the second half, which was declined, but also which wiped a touchdown.
So, seven penalties were either procedural or holding, for a total of 44 yards.
Six penalties were just mistakes by our players for a total of 90 yards, including three inexcusable personal fouls that accounted for 45 yards.

Although, this is the first I've seen our penalties listed from Saturday.
That first half....oof.
Wright removing his helmet is the very definition of boneheaded. I thought the Banks roughing penalty was dumb... the guy was still fighting for yardage. Cade as well, boneheaded. We are not good enough to shoot ourselves in the foot over and over and win.Penalties:
