Curiously, I haven't heard mention of it in the past few weeks......but did Pearl ever sign his new contract, or not?

If so, I stand corrected.

If not, I wonder what's the hold up....and how long does this go on?

on his halftime interview of the Charlotte game, he said he was working without a contract; don't know when that was taped so may have one by now

Well, that would have only been a few days ago.

I wonder why the local media - who so hotly pursued this for a few weeks - have since remained silent on the issue?

I'd think it'd be even more telling (and more of a story) the longer it continues to go unsigned, right?

I think UT is waiting to see if the hammer drops before they do anything; if it does drop, Bruce is gone

If that were the case, they wouldn't have given him a new contract to sign.

Which they have.

Thus far, it's execution is only delayed by Pearl's refusal to sign it - not UT's, in accepting it.

So, why has he thus far refused? You'd think he'd be happy to have a job right now, as well as the fact that he loves Tennessee and plans on being here for a long, long time and all.

That is, if you can believe him when he said those things. Not that he's been known to lie.

Great question. Though the situation is a little different, the Lex media didn't beat this to death with Billy Clyde. I don't think they ever had anything other than a letter of agreement. While this may be commonplace in the world of negotiations, I think there is more relevance in the case of Pearl.

He indicated in the interview that he did not have a contract and was not sure he could survive this situation, depending on the sanctions that are forthcoming from the NCAA.

I thought the Tennessee department laughed at his recent contract proposal? Either way, I could see why the local media wouldn't want this brought up. It makes Pearl and the University look bad. We all know Knoxville media doesn't want to expose anyone related to Tennessee.

We have a winner.

UT has given Pearl the contract to sign. Ball is in his court not theirs. I'd say he is waiting to get a better feel for the NCAA ruling. He will bolt if more sanctions or suspensions come down not the other way round. Plenty of assistant coaching positions in the NBA.

There's no possible way you're serious TD?

Laughing? Why?

I have no sympathy for a man that has broken the rules multiple times at multiple places. I refuse to buy into much of what Pearl says. I just figured the waterworks was just more fake stuff. Just my opinion on the man.

Because that's what bandwagon fans with no loyalty do.
As opposed to University of Pearl sheep like yourself who think basketball at UT began play in November of 2005. I love it when people who are obviously just honks for a phony charlatain with an aversion to following rules and a propensity for snitching comment on the fandom of people who have always followed the basketball program.

Ok, here are some clues as to the point I am making:

What specific element of the new contract is causing Pearl to refuse to sign it? Think about it. Why wouldn't Pearl have signed it by now?

He's agreed to the pay reduction - so it's not about money.

He says he wants to be here for a long time, and feels fortunate to still be here now - so it's not about the length of the contract.

If Tennessee were going to can him, they wouldn't have offered a new contract (and he'd be gone) - so it isn't Tennessee that's either wanting rid of him, or is hanging this up.

It isn't because of the stipulations about 'AA compliance, as those were already in place in the original contract.

I am certain that there are more than a few people on here who can answer this question if they want to - or perhaps someone can simply piece it together.

And if someone does say it / figures it out - even Pearl's most ardent supporters will find it difficult, if not impossible, to continue defending him.

It's right under your noses, VolNation.

LMAO at your contention that Bruce Pearl is in the power position in this contract situation. Bruce Pearl has been sitting on this contract for many, many weeks? Why? Because it contains provisions that he doesn't like, but he has no power to change those provisions in the contract unless the NCAA announces that it's giving him a free pass...and it won't.

You're close....but what provisions does he so adamantly oppose as to be willing to work without a contract - specifically?
