This article pretty much sums up selective enforcement of Mark Emmert and the ncaa and enforces the reason Vol basketball fans everywhere have a right to be steamed;

Haith, Pearl lie to NCAA, but Haith gets 5 games and Pearl show cause? - CBSSports.com

To add insult to injury, Coach Pearl was hit by an eight game suspension by Mike Slime and the SEC. A show-cause on top of an eight game suspension now looks extraordinarily excessive in comparison to Haith's mere five game suspension. Keep in mind that Coach Pearl never bought a player, unlike Haith and his staff at Miami. That's the one thing that always used to garner a program the dreaded Death Penalty. Haith clearly is guilty of the greater offense.

People really need to go read and learn all the facts that are out on what happened in Miami for the last 10 years. This goes way beyond paying a player. This booster ran a Ponzi scheme that generated nearly 1 billion dollars that he then money laundered to benefit himself and Miami. This booster has been on record of owning a yacht that NBA star players had even rented out, and when he didn't rent this yacht out to NBA players, he used the yacht to provide "services" to recruits from woman he had paid. He even said he paid for a recruits girlfriend to get an abortion. Miami let this go on and when people found out Miami coaches paid him to keep quiet, which he didn't clearly.

Miami is overseen by Donna Shalala. A member of President Bill Clinton's cabinet. Any more questions?

The real reason the penalty is light is the original NCAA investigators lied and planted evidence and totally screwed up the case. Yes Miami was and is guilty and deserves much harsher, but UM threatened to sue and bring out the NCAA misconduct so this is the settlement. As usual the NCAA is a joke.

The anti-Semitic crowd went after Pearl. I fully believe this. Its all a fraternity. He had haters for years. He should sue the hell out of the ones responsible. Imo.

Don't think I can buy the anti-Semit line, but Bruce certainly appears to have a court case against the NCAA. The penalty was crazy over the top without the Miami comparison. The punishment never fit the crime.

Isn't his 3 years up after this season? If he wants to return to coaching in college, he may not think a court case would enhance his future employment?

BS....

The difference is that Miami fought back. Hamilton and Cheek rolled over and lubed up.

The AA takes advantage of low hanging fruit.

You have to be kidding. Of all the defenses even conceivable, that's the one you're going with?

His show cause expires in August, and I agree, a court case won't likely help his cause in getting another job. History tells us he'll need all the help he can get too.

Didn't UT hire a consultant during the investigation that recommended the course of action?

I tend to agree that our administration is at fault for how this was handled post-violation. The ineptitude from them was inexcusable.

Pearl is ultimately to blame, but he had no direction from his superiors. They neither fired him, suspended him, nor backed him. They just allowed the wound to fester.

The infraction is all on Pearl. The weakness of the administration is what led to the harshness of the penalties.

The new paradigm with the AA is that if you show some teeth (Miami, Oregon, Penn State) they will deal regardless of the severity of the penalty.

If you roll over and try to "cooperate" like Ohio State, USC or UT, they stick it to you. It seems pretty simple.

The Ponzi scheme had nothing to do with Miami. Shapiro is a con man who is now doing federal time.

People should read the NCAA report, because it verifies that he provided around $80k in benefits (mostly meals, bowling, drinks at nightclubs and small gifts)over 8 years. There is absolutely nothing about an abortion for a stripper (laugh), and the NCAA doesn't make any findings on paying a player.

Miami lacked institutional control but there is no evidence (and no argument by the NCAA) that the Miami admin. knew about what was going on.

Haith and his assistants, and the football assistants, got what they deserved. Haith should've gotten more because the NCAA basically decided that his testimony was not credible. I guess they couldn't hamemr him though, because they could not prove he lied.

If you read the report, Miami's penalties (now) seem so light because Miami self-imposed significant sanctions on themselves and cooperated fully with the NCAA investigation. USC "fought bacK" and USC got 30 scholarships over 3 years.

From your post, you obviously haven't kept up with any of these investigations.

You should learn to read. One, how do you think the dude funded for all these things? Ponzi scheme is the answer by the way. Two, I never said he funded an abortion for a stripper. If you want to try to make people look stupid try some hooked on phonics first. Everything I just said can be found online in about two seconds with a google search of the boosters name.

Again, Miami had nothing to do with the ponzi scheme, correct?

Once Miami was aware of the federal charges against Shapiro, all donations were returned to his bankruptcy trustee, as was the $80k that Miami's own investigation uncovered was paid in benefits by Shapiro to Miami recruits and players.

Skip the google search and just read the NCAA findings, you'll learn a few things.
