That's the thing. They didn't really do it unilaterally. Pearl agreed that he had committed misconduct that could warrant termination. In return for that, it's obvious the university took him at his word that the all the infractions have been revealed and went to work on a modified contract.I guess you could technically say that the university had to legally show some sort of cause for terminating the old contract unilaterally. Still not what I'd call a firing.

It appears someone might want to look a little more closely into the definition of being fired. Pretty sure it doesn't include the employer sending the terminee a reworked multiyear contract.
The basketball program will definitely recover if Pearl is gone. We have some of the best facilities in the US, especially with the addition of Pratt Pavillion, which wasn't there before Pearl. Tennessee, made a horrible hire with Buzz Peterson, who had very little experience as a head coach. Pearl has heightened our fans expectations and I hope he continues to coach at Tennessee.
