Pearl No Longer Under Contract With UT...

Sad to say volballers, but this does not look good. I really do like Pearl.
How do you arrive at that conclusion? UT simply leveraged its position of strength with Pearl after his mistakes to adjust terms of his deal. That's all this is right now.

The ESPN article explains it well. It's done this way to reduce his pay. Delete thread or change title. He has a new contract but it has to be reviewed by his lawyers. Got me all scared for nothing.

It says this has been the case since app. Sept. 9th. They had to rewrite something to make the pay reduction official, I assume...

Bottom line is he was fired and getting it worked out in a new contract for lower pay. Probably best that it was done like this to avoid more legal hassle regarding the pay. I like Pearl, hope this ends the mess.

Where are you even remotely getting that from?

It appears someone might want to look a little more closely into the definition of being fired. Pretty sure it doesn't include the employer sending the terminee a reworked multiyear contract.

I guess you could technically say that the university had to legally show some sort of cause for terminating the old contract unilaterally. Still not what I'd call a firing.

That's the thing. They didn't really do it unilaterally. Pearl agreed that he had committed misconduct that could warrant termination. In return for that, it's obvious the university took him at his word that the all the infractions have been revealed and went to work on a modified contract.

It seems like a pretty good business move by Hamilton, shockingly. At this point, they can consider a new contract while having the ability to let Pearl go if anything comes out between now and when the new contract is finished without having to pay any sort of buyout or even having to show cause.

Since we have the leverage in the relationship, I hope Hammy protects the university by not allowing raises for a while. No more putting your name out there for other jobs to generate a pay increase for you and your staff.

If UT fires Pearl or if he quits, the basketball program (with all the progress it has made) will never recover. I hope UT understands that.

Maybe Hamilton thinks the NCAA is as stupid as Pearl thought they were. Wonder if loss of institutional control of the athletic program will enter the mind of the investigators?

The basketball program will definitely recover if Pearl is gone. We have some of the best facilities in the US, especially with the addition of Pratt Pavillion, which wasn't there before Pearl. Tennessee, made a horrible hire with Buzz Peterson, who had very little experience as a head coach. Pearl has heightened our fans expectations and I hope he continues to coach at Tennessee.

Yeah, screw NCAA rules, we want him to remain as our coach regardless of his conduct. The more unethical, the better as long as he wins.
