Of course he screwed up...and he's being punished big time. He and his assistants are taking HUGE pay cuts here and self imposing recruiting restrictions that are not light. He screwed up but what else do you want them to do? He is UT Basketball. Without him we are nothing on the hardwood.

I'll let Don DeVoe, Dale Ellis, Bernard King, Grunfeld and the others know.

This freaking board will explode with people criticizing Pearl now.

I say stay off if you are going to do this!!!!!:eek:k:

Absolutely! We should even more strongly support a coach who is willing to cheat and lie about it to the NCAA. What a great asset to the program and university. I can't believe anyone would critical of this action by Pearl. If I'm not mistaken, interviews by the NCAA are sworn statements under oath. That would give us even more reason to support Pearl---what a great guy and coach.

That last sentence is blasphemy.

Oh that's right, a couple of All-Americans in a century of basketball equals a successful program. We were nothing before Pearl. He has wiggle room here. He screwed up but has earned job security.

You do that. And while you're talking to them ask them who is the most successful basketball coach in UT history. To a man they will tell you its Bruce Pearl. We've had a few good players over the years but we didn't have a program until Pearl built it.

I don't know what's more discouraging here... Bruce Pearl lying to the NCAA, or some of the reactions I'm reading to his illicit activity.:eek:hmy:

I bet 90% of our fans will blame this on one or more of Kiffin, Calipari, Bush, and Obama.

It could be argued that Kiffin's hostessgate is what opened the door for the investigation in the first place.....but I really don't care to go down that road because I am sooooo tired of all things Kiffin and I know all of your boys will thrash me unmercifully and tell me how bitter I am within minutes of posting.

I for one blame this squarely on Pearl. But I don't know what the people who are so upset about it think should be done. Are we really going to fire the man who built the program for admitting that he was misleading with the NCAA? He screwed up but he is admitting it, taking a huge financial hit, and self imposing really tough recruiting sanctions. What more do the haters want?

I would hate to lose Pearl but Tennessee could still hire a great coach with the resources
we have

I knew we should have never hired Bruce. All he has done is brought our program the most success in the history of the UT basketball.

True ... But, remember that we have oh-so-many angelic ticket-holders attending games in Thompson-Boling GLASSHOUSE Arena who have never made mistakes in their lives. I know I, for one, often miss action on the court due to the excessive glare reflecting off the glittering sea of halos all around me.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go pray.

Oh I forgot this tactic, the "I guess you're never lied" strawman argument.

I guess I also forgot that where I work, doing something illegal and then covering it up is grounds for immediate termination. And me arguing that "everyone else is doing it" isn't going to help me one bit.

Oh, I see. One need be faultless to find this a problem. Sweet logic.

I'll try to remeber this jewel as I teach my kids to avoid doing some of the stupid crap I did.

He got you BPV, his logic is air tight.

Of course I hope that means he's NEVER pointed out anyone has ever done something wrong either, because obviously in his world that's not allowed.

It's just a very lame way to rationalize what has happened. There is no possible way to slice this and think it's OK. Does it warrant dismissal? No. Is it a problem now and well into the future? Unequivocally and for myriad reasons.
