As I heard today, the clouds are rolling in and we could be in for some serious thunderstorms ahead. Brent Hubbs said that based on someone he talked to today, Pearl would be Iowa's #1 candidate if Alford leaves for Indiana.

Pearl could make some real noise in the weak SEC as opposed to the Big 10...just dont think it would be a good career move IMO.

Exactly. I don't think Iowa is a better job besides maybe the conference. It's all about the "ties" though.
Pearl's only tie to Iowa was Tom Davis. Boston College would concern me more as a possible threat to steal Pearl away.

Plus you'd have to live in Iowa. Look what it did to Kevin Costner....he made a baseball field in his corn.

I agree hatvol but the BC job isn't open at this point and it looks like Iowa will be.

It's not as much about expectations. I don't think they ever liked Davis from day 1.

IU is a top 10 program...expect that from the ELITE schools..heck all you have to do is check out how the UK fans are treating Tubby..the man has owned the SEC for yrs.

This guy has coached for yrs and like anyone else you want to move up the ladder..UT could very well be a stepping stone..who wouldn't want to coach at a tradition rich school like IU??

I know I know...

He'll be coming off a great year here, he should have the Vols ranked in the preseaon next year, he has some good recruits coming in, he's worked too hard trying to sell the basketball program, he's in the mix for new facilities and he likes to wear the orange suspenders and the orange blazer too much.

Not to mention he enjoys talking shop with Pat, he likes Fulmer, he's going to get a hefty raise, 25,000 screaming fans and the AD LOVES him.......Need I say more?

Sort of like Tubby Smith going from Tulsa to Georgia and then leaving for Kentucky.

well freak if you must know WHY he wont be leaving. Besides the fact the man is about to be signed to a big contract, and he has publicly stated OVER and OVER again that he won't be leaving, the man loves the school. the man is crazy over the student body. All he ever does is talk about how great the state of tennessee is and how great the school and the kids are in the school. He knows that he is going to get the big money in tennessee, cause we can afford to pay him. We have all the facilities and resources to make this into a great basketball school, we just needed the seller for it. He loves it here, if he was just going to leave after one year, dont you think hamlington would have went after some one else??

I don't think Hamilton or anyone else ever dreamed we would be 19-3. If we were just over .500 like we all expected then this would not be a discussion.

You make a good point. IU already is a tradition rich school. What would it prove to anybody if you could win at Indiana? On the other hand, if you could take Tennessee to a plateau never seen before would that be a more impressive feat? Oh yeah, Thompson-Boling can fit in a whole lot of folks to watch a basketball game and consequently make the school able to afford to pay their coach a handsome salary. What a dilemma.... :nono:

Arena size has nothing to do with it...ask Dook. Coach K makes decent money! :wink2: BTW I do agree it would be more impressive to make UT a national power...but at IU he could contend for a NC.

He can win a national title here. UT is #8 in his first season. He has a top ten class coming in. He signed that top ten class before even coaching a game here despite the fact that UT had not been ranked in the top ten since 2001. Pearl does not have to go to IU to win a title. The only reason to go to IU is if he wants to be at a "basketball" school.

I dont quiet get your last statment that he can make IU a NC contender. are you saying Tennessee can't contend for a NC? I mean seriously though, 19-3 in his first year, and it will only improve as he gets more and more players to buy into his system. top recruits will keep coming and tennessee will be a contender for a national title. BTW, if you dont think tennessee can make a run this year in the ncaa tourney, then your bracket is going to truly suck this year... just trying to help a friend..

I think your right. IMO Pearl is the hottest coach in the country. How many people thought Roy Williams would leave Kansas to go to North Carolina after building the program at Kansas? I think there are only a handful of coaching jobs that could lure him away, Indiana, UCLA, Kentucky, etc. Iowa isn't one of those. I wouldn't completely rule out a Pitino like jump to the pro's either (ala Kevin O'neill). I think Hamilton better be talking serious money when this season ends.

I was at the Final Four in New Orleans just prior to Williams leaving for UNC. I didn't meet anyone who thought Williams wasn't leaving.
