Payroll Question

This argument is exactly why the "players as employees" will never happen.
The universities and athletic departments will fight against that for this very reason...once players become employees, they are now employees of a public institution and as such their salary is public information.

The only way that works is like Steve Spurrier laid out. You pay them, but you pay them all equally.
That doesn't really work in the capitalist system though since a player at UT will draw more revenue than a player at Vandy just due to ticket sales, merchandising, etc.
So that can't been seen as completely fair either.

Technically, isn't the AD run as a separate entity from the university itself?

Easy, pal. Just curious. We hear that this guy makes this much; that guy makes that much. I don't intend to make trouble by saying someone is not worth what we are paying him. Just curious.
Ignore them my friend. It’s not worth it. Most on here knew you were curious and asking a simple question.

Knowing what teammates make could create locker room issues, better off if no one knows.
good point.

But, the players talk and know who makes what. We’ve already heard coaches talk about locker disruption due to NIL. I can’t recall the coach’s name but there was an article how he lost the locker room last year. I wish I could recall his name or school name.

Each power 4 school is splitting 20.5 million among the athletes from all sports. This is not NIL, it is separate from that. I haven’t seem any information on who is getting what, but they are getting paid by the university. My daughter is a sec athlete in a no revenue sport. She is getting a scholarship, but no revenue share.

Public money. There's a difference in that and knowing the details of a private contract. For example, we didn't know how much all football coaches make

  • Tim Banks (defensive coordinator): $1.5 million
  • Glen Elarbee (offensive line): $900,000
  • Rodney Garner (defensive line): $900,000
  • Joey Halzle (offensive coordinator/QBs): $850,000
  • William Inge (linebackers): $720,000
  • Mike Ekeler (special teams/OLB): $575,000
  • Kelsey Pope (wide receiver): $550,000
  • Willie Martinez (secondary): $540,000
  • De’Rail Sims (running backs): $350,000
  • Alec Abeln (tight ends): $250,000

Like I said - public. Go find the salaries for coaches at private schools
