Before anyone jumps on me and crucifies me with "BUT WHO WOULD WE GET", I am not saying to immediately fire CBJ. Merely asking a question out of curiosity for my knowledge. I am not very knowledgeable or informed on buyouts.

Are we still currently paying any former head coaches? Dooley or (hopefully not) anyone else? If so, how much longer/how much more is owed?

Also, what is Butch's buyout? I've seen posters using the number of $10M but how does that work exactly? A lump sum? Payed out over years? Does that number change based on any factors?

Thank you in advance for any answers!

$2.5 million per year left on his contract which currently ends in 2020, so $10 million if fired now.

Lyle's buyout is remaining years X 2.5 mill. so right now 4 years (his contract is thru 2020) x $2.5 mill or $10 million. That would be mitigated by the amount of any coaching salary that he would get anywhere else if hired elsewhere after we terminate him. Not sure why college A wouldn't hire him for $1 and let us still kick in the amount up the $2.5 mill.

also, his buyout to us, I think is either $2mill or $2.5mill... which was renegotiated at his last extented contract. So if he left us, ala Kiffin, he would owe us that amount.

So to put it in real dollars...

Fuente is a name a few have mentioned. If he leaves VA Tech he owes them 6 million.

So, bare minimum we could roll the dice on JF for the low low price of $16 million dollars. Plus his salary. Plus any assistant buyouts.

JF would be a fool to come to kville. He stated he was happy at VT and has all kinds of support from former head coach and community. Slick hart done us in with the large buyout of lyles contract. I would trade lyle for JF today. He has a great offense and throws the ball often. Took a complete Memphis trainwreck and made it 100% better and recruited ok. Now Norvelle used a former Vol reject and never missed a beat. He will be the next up and coming coach. Maybe not in the Herman class but good.:rock:

There is a clause in his contract saying something along the lines of 'make reasonable effort to find another job' and 'with current advertised salary for that job'.
I am sure a lot of companies would probably do that type of shenanigans but typically University Football programs do not like that kind of act. A lawsuit could cost lot more for them and Butch.
