Pay these prices?

You have to understand the circumstances. The UT AD is not a "for-profit" entity. My expertise is not in tax, but for tax purposes, I believe non-profits have to spend toward their "charitable goals." The AD doesn't have to answer to shareholders and pay out a dividend and doesn't maximize profits. It can and will keep some reserves, but it generally will spend what comes in the door. All athletic departments are like this, and they want to spend the money to maximize success on the field/court.

Therefore, when revenue goes up, spending on coaches and facilities go up as well. There are fixed costs that will not rise (i.e. tuition as scholarships are capped, room and board, etc.). I have never seen a large surplus in an annual UT AD financial report. You obviously want a surplus, but they are basically just balancing the budget with a probablility that some of the funds have been placed in their reserve account.
Yes, I’m not a financial or tax expert, but I have noticed that revenue/expenditures have always been pretty even.

Other than a few times when buyout money was needed, the athletics side pays its expenses, then sends all but a small percentage of the excess to the academic side. It's why we have had one of the lowest reserves in the SEC even though we bring in more money than most other schools.

They aren’t sending squat to academics. Sent less than 1% of the annual revenue to the library department once about 20 years ago.

That stopped years ago.

They send payment for the scholarships and maybe room and board. But I believe the university also pays the AD some for the student activity fees that are generated every year.

Athletics awards nearly 2 million dollars in non-athetics scholarships a year. It also sends about 7 million to the academic side for student athlete scholarships. It was giving an additional 10 million a year on top of all that.

I guess we see UTAD learned something from the Music City Bowl heist of Vol fans

I think the lesson here is “don’t act like you know, when you don’t actually know.”

You can't be serious. You've never "picked" a game and been wrong? Must be nice. BTW... if Pinson plays... what then? Seems a win over a shorthanded LSU team has gotten everyone a bit cocky. Rock on!

Well you made the comment when it was thought both Pinson & Days might be out, so…

If Chandler and Fulk play at Bama….what then?
