Paul Johnson (Georgia Tech)

Miami is getting thumped by a Georgia Tech team that's scored 31 points since putting a 6'2", 250-pound tackle in the game.

This is a perfect example of how a defense with future NFL players simply cannot stop a well-executed option offense. GT has 400 rushing yards on 36 carries as I write this, with more on the way.

Anybody doubting the Flexbone needs to flip over to ESPN right now. Ga Tech has hung 400 yards rushing on Miami . . . and they haven't started the 4th quarter yet.

True but Miami needs tackling lessons in a bad way

About one more time getting gashed by that fullback and Randy Shannon is going to start drinking on the sideline.

475 rushing yards on 53 carries. 47 yards on 4/7 passing.

I've got SUCH a raging clue right now.

That was beautiful to watch. That offense would be just gorgeous in Tennessee orange smashing over and through Alabama and Florida.

"That offense" would never smash any1 in the SEC. It's Georgia Tech...running over Miami. Not the Miami U that it used to be. Paul Johnson as coach would not help at all, there's no way that will help bring in the recruits against Meyer, Richt, Saban, Miles, etc. Granted they have a million rushing yards last night against Miami, and it looks ten times better than UT this season, but that would not work in the SEC. If he should be looked at as coach, I should make some dumb suggestions also. Let's go after Rick Stockstill at MTSU, or possibly Travis Henry...he's out of a job right now, and former UT running back. Or how bout this, let's go after my friend who coaches freshmen football in Gallatin??? Their offense was dominant this year! Give me a break, I can't wait till they hire a coach, but some of these ideas or possible rumors just plain suck.

It worked in the SEC for years and years and many national title's were won with the option offense...It can and WILL work in the SEC with the right people running it....And if its run correctly, There is no stopping it....Period

volnmiami, i agree. the option is one of the most dynamic offenses you can run. to defend the option there are so many things to watch for etc etc. get the right speed and a good blocking scheme and you are golden. not to mention watching the option is one of the most beautiful offenses to watch

Wrong. Johnson is doing this with leftover players. Imagine what this offense will look like when he gets who he wants. ACC better watch out. The Tri option is here.

It worked...yes it did work. But I seriously doubt it will work again. Offenses have changed since then. The spread dominates football now like the option used to. Generally the teams that run it now are not in a big conference like the SEC.

I don't think anybody thinks Paul Johnson is a candidate. It's just something to talk about.

It amazes me the way people dismiss Triple Option football as some kind of gimmick the day after seeing Ga Tech put up almost 500 yards rushing against a Top 25 opponent.

Nebraska ran it for years and everyone knew that they were gonna run it yet nobody could stop it. As powerhouse UF when they got trucked by Tom osbourne and Co. UF was the cream of the crop in the SEC then.

I heard the same argument that Urban Meyer's offense wouldn't work against SEC defenses when he was beating up on Utah State.

I see that has panned out.

I guess we'll find out next week when they play UGA.

All offenses work. What does the SEC have to do with anything??? Is there some magic formula about SEC defenses in regards to other offenses?

That is a ridiculous argument.

BTW, CPJ won't leave Tech. He has 75 freshman and sophomores out of 110 players.

He is a very particular person. He left Navy for the job he wanted. I have connections to him and I think this will probably be his last job.

Oh man I love watching a fine tuned option offense grind it out...I'm an old school type of guy to begin with so when there is a chance to see option football I jump at it...I would like it here but I doubt there is any chance of that happening...Johnson is sure proving a lot of people wrong though

I still see Scott Frost and Ahman Green turning the corners against Us in Miami in 1997 and our guys barely able to move from being worn down so much in my nightmares lol
