Paul Finebaum Today...

I was expecting some good names to reemerge in our coaching search, but sadly they've only gotten worse. Football Scoop is saying Fulmer will likely pick from Morris, Steele, Miles, Tucker, and Venables. Woof. That's a terrible list outside the chance of a Miles/Tee combo. And I'm still pissed that Fulmer killed the Leach deal and it appears we are going to hire someone far inferior to Leach. It is also worrisome that he was ok with Doeren. The absolute floor should be Miles/Tee though. If we go the other routes than we are no better off if it would have been Currie picking the guy, not including Schiano lol.

Yeah keep thinking Fulmer killed the Leach deal. Lol.

Venables is certainly a roll of the dice considering his lack of HC experience but at this point, how in the hell could you guys complain over getting one of (if not the) most coveted coordinators in America?

Exactly. I think some fans are fooling themselves into believing we are the Tennessee of the 90's. We are far, far, far from those heights. If we were to somehow get a Venables, I would almost consider that a home run hire. We as a program cannot afford to be picky.

Can anyone explain to me why Morris should get this job over Leach? Don't talk to me about Leach's personality. I want to know how Fulmer could possibly think Morris is more of a winner than Leach. I mean..... I hate to say this..... I'd hire Kiffin over Morris. But I wouldn't hire either over Leach.

I have low expectations of Fulmer. Too much ego, hope I'm wrong.

It's almost like he wants to validate his view of how football should be played. That's the negative of having a former coach as A.D. He wants someone who is aligned with his football views, while an administrator would look at the numbers and hire a winner.

I don't know who Fulmer should hire, only fear who he might. Possibly most important hire in UT athletics history. Afraid he wants to see himself in the next hire.

I don't know how reliable Bruce Feldman is but on the drive home today on PF show. Bruce was asked about the coaching situation in Tennessee. He seemed to think the top 2 candidates are

SMU Coach Chad Morris & Clemson DC Brent Venables.

if this is the case hoping Venables

I think the really important message to take away from Finebaum recently is that he’s in love with Laura. Have you noticed he doesn’t wear his glasses when she’s on the show with him?

She'd snap Finebaum in half. I really want Finebaum to hook up with Tammy from Clanton.

This is my favorite call from Finebaum. Look at how hot he gets when Tammy talks about her "toy".

Both are Clemson guys. Morris was the OC at Clemson up until 2014.Arkansas is talking to Morris too. Currie already interviewed Morris once. If we get someone like that, I expect an apathy to set in that that we haven't ever seen at UT. I think Miles is a terrible idea, but a ton of people seem fired up about him. I'm not one of them. That's the direction I think we'll go though if Cut turns us down again.

Miles will recruit well and will take us to 8 or 9 wins in short order ...and then will retire and a better selection of successors will be available to a program in that situation. So would Cutt.

An unproven , inexperienced coach may be able to or may not . If it is the 'may not' option we will be back here in this same spot in a couple of years

I vote for the sure fire stop gap and proven recruiter to stop the bleeding . But if those guys wont come ...well we have to hire someone

Bruce Feldman is a steaming pant load with corn. Heard that hack on the radio this past Friday throw CPF under the bus based on ‘4 reliable sources’......guessing those 4 people were the Haslam brothers, Currie and his wife. Read Feldman, Lowe, and Forde with caution and a nearby barf bag.

I know, you Bama fans would hate if we had a coach who could win.

There are two hires for UT that would scare me.

1) Gruden, could recruit on his name very quickly. However, unless your crazy we know isn't happening.

2) Kiffen. Based solely on fact if you can put together a good offence in the SEC with a solid defence is capable of beating us as long as Jalen is our QB. We would not be able to run and gun vs. a good offence (see Auburn gsme)

Cup cakes from the Pac 12/Big 12 ETC... coming to the SEC don't scare me as it's a whole other ball game in SEC.

Fisher is gonna be in for a rude awakening for example.

I don't have much of a problem with either of them--or Miles/Martin combo. I also wouldn't mind taking a shot with Pruitt. The last Bama defensive coordinator who took over as HC seemed to work out pretty well.

This isn't to say I wouldn't also go for one of the flashier big name hires.

It’s literally people that say or think we’re not worthy that are the problem.

I'd really like to see us get Venables. Really great recruiter and it's proven throughout the years. Gets the most out of his players. Sadly he has a son who is committed in the 2018 class and I don't think he'll up and abandon him, unless they went together. Some people like Morris, but I don't really see how that would be a good fit here. He did recruit Deshaun Watson though and I think they still use Morris's offense at Clemson. If it's not Venables, it's gotta be Les Miles with Tee coming in as an OC. I guess we'll find out either today or in the next like 2 days.
