Paul finebaum show

To be honest, I rarely turn into the Avenging Vol when I call Finebaum. I just like talking football--and most other college sports. But today, listening to the dregs of gatordom flapping their gums, I just couldn't let it slide another day. ESPECIALLY that traitor idiot bandwagon gator "fan" who lives in Jasper in his big silver Airstream parked at the back end of a junkyard. He has been harassing me on Twitter for a couple of weeks now, and I really need a "Stew-pid" dictionary to translate his attempts to write the English language. But the guys in the control room all know me and when I call, they know I'm not going to say something irredeemably stupid.

And Paul likes me. :) That's a huge help.

did anyone watch/listen Monday? Some other guy was hosting. There was a lady that went OFFFFFFFFFFF...it was hilarious. I was sad she was an Auburn fan lol.

she said "S-E-C- SKEDJUUUUUUUU" about 30 times in a 2-minute rant

I didn't see it, but that sounds like Trailerpark Tammy-- especially if she ended it with "Woar DAMN Eagle."

I brokered a knowledge of football, a ponytail, and eyelashes into a bar betting career that literally bought me all kinds of cool stuff. All due to watching UT games from near-infancy and UT winning the BCS at just the right time. First. For some reason, works even better up here in the great Buckeye swamp. So easy to get some of these Yankees likkered up enough to say, "Yeah, I'll bet a hundred bucks that Michigan beats App State."

My whole career is based upon a night when I was likkered up and said, "I'll give you Vandy and SIXTY points." And won.

Honestly, those Gator fans almost had me go call in for my first time. I love talking sports, but some of these fans are delusional with where they think their programs are at. Mizzou is really bad about it, but Florida is the worst. I just don't understand the Arkansas hype. The guys they lost on their defense were all their best guys and after Williams and the other RB who's name escapes me atm they are lacking at depth at that position. The guy isn't Chubb or Gurley or Henry, he's a good back who probably will give them 1,000 yards, but without a good passing game, Arkansas is going to be in a world of hurt this year. I'm waiting to see these RB's like Perine and Arky's back get eaten by Khalil trying to go up the middle. I think we have an interior that will wear down these running backs more than they wear us down.

that actually sounds about right omg

That's Tammy. She has epic rants. Also a real nice lady and she loves the Vols. We're her second favorite SEC team, apparently.

I'm pretty good friends with the infamous Phyllis from Mulga. She's a very sweet lady--going through a lot right now healthwise and with her family. We agree to dislike each other only one week a year. But she's got a heart of gold and honestly--how can you dislike a Southern gal who takes on 'Cow-turd' and wins? She has a fantastic story about why Bama means so much to her and I have to be honest--if I'd been in her shoes, I'd have loved Bama too. She's an amazing person. And a critical care nurse, which makes her really special too.

That is awesome. I want to get into the college coaching world, so I can't get into the betting sphere, but it's a damn good way to make money if you can keep your head.

The big advantage we have going into the ARK game is the passing game. Even though Allen is a senior, ARK and Bielema have never asked him to do more than manage the game. The SEC is at a point where a game manager at QB isn't going to win you games.

The running game is still going to be potent. Behind that O-line, I could get twenty yards per carry using a walker. Make no mistake--ARK is a challenge. That's why I'm coming down for that game. Should be one of the best games of the year, win or lose.

I've never been into the gambling game, per se, but my dad and uncles all are so I've been around it my whole life. I rarely if ever bet on UT though. I just don't like mixing my money with my mojo. When I watch UT games, I don't want to be thinking "Oh, Christ, if we don't win this game I can't get groceries this week."

But yeah--winning a bet when you give a 60 point spread does help to establish your reputation. No one would bet with me for about 3 years after that.

I totally agree with you, and Arky's always played us tough, no matter what the year is. I think Arky gets their rushing yards, but I don't think they can pass against our strong and very deep secondary with a relatively weak receiving corps and our elite pass rush against Allen. I actually think more of Allen than most people do, I've seen the guy play and the guy can sling it when he is in the zone, but I don't think he's been asked enough to do it in his career to be able to shoulder it alone, and Tennessee will be the first team that will force him to win the game with his arm, and I just don't see him being able to do so. I think he is capable, but I don't think he is prepared enough to do it yet.

Trailerpark Tammy isn't my name for her, BTW. She has been called that on the show. I don't watch much, so all I remember about her is that she always yells "Woar DAMN Eagle!" at the end. Not sure I've ever heard a Phyllis call and I missed yours, too-- sorry! But thanks for representing-- whenever I've seen the show, the Vols haven't had many callers.

What's your thoughts on Alabama this year? I personally hold a lot of respect for our eternal rival, but I see them at 9-3 this year because I feel that they don't have an answer is the passing game and I think that their defense, particularly in the secondary and LB corps, has gotten slow. Talented, yes, strong, yes, but I think that they have slipped overall in the speed department and I think they will slip hard against these speedy teams that can stretch the field. Tennessee, Ole Miss, MSU, and Auburn I think with possibly TAMU added in could all beat this team. Henry is a monster back, but the SEC is too talented this year to win just with a powerful rushing attack.

knowledgeable and respectful Vols fans aren't quite as good for ratings as pissed off redneck white trash Alabamians

Sad but true.

Anybody know who that guy is that laughs/cackles at the end of the promo? Gotta be a Bama fan.

I agree with this but, as always, that O-line of ours is not going to do us any favors. ARK is BIG on both lines. I think we can contain Kody Walker (new #1 RB) better than we would have Williams, but Walker still got 700+ yards last year as 3rd stringer, so he has the ability to be just as good.

Where we're going to beat them (hopefully) is with our speed on both sides of the ball. If we can keep Williams from large yardages runs, then we force Brandon Allen to throw. And if we do that, then our secondary is the difference in the game.

No worries! She doesn't mind the name and I don't mind it for her. She is...erm...excitable and passionate and she by God loves her team. And let me tell you--being on hold while Tammy is ranting on the show makes you sit there and say over and over "Please not me next...please not me next...please..."

I don't think 9-3 is out of the question. Bama is always loaded and deep with talent, but with the QB situation still up in the air and Amari Cooper gone they're more vulnerable this year than in a long time. Coker has totally blown his shot to start at Bama--I think Jimbo Fisher is still laughing at the fast one he pulled on Saban--and no one has stepped up to the front. Barnett is probably the most talented QB, but ideally they'd want to redshirt him. The frontrunner right now is probably Cornwell, but he's not going to be half as good as Sims was. So I think their offense is going to struggle.

Defensively, though--man. That D-line is scary good. I think we'll be in the game with Bama til the end. I wouldn't dare try to pick it until I see them play. It'll be hard if not near-impossible to beat them in Bryant-Denny, but NEXT year? In Neyland? THAT is going to be different.

Overall I think Bama loses at least 2 regular season games. No clue who's going to survive the west.

That's true, but there is a core of knowledgeable sensible callers--some older gentlemen, for the most part, who know and understand the game.

That being said, they did ambush me with Jim from Tuscaloosa on a call once, and I destroyed him right down to the corns on the bottoms of his ugly a$$ hobbit feet. Since then, a lot of regulars have really taken a shine to me, and I was on the Finebaum "pre-season best caller watch list".

Yeah, I know. It's cheesy, but I'll take it. :)

I don't think I've had a football talk this good in years! Football is my passion and hopefully I work my way up to coaching a part of our VOLS. I always appreciate knowledgeable talk. At the end of the day, I keep track of recruiting out til 2018 right now, and I like watching all the trends in college football, and I think we are going to have many many happy years to come. People aren't going to be comparing is to Kentucky again (caller from Johnson City who called as I typed this), and I look forward to talking more football with you in the future. Would definitely make for a great Vol talk show.

I love talking football! Especially at this time of year, when we're all tied for first. But yeah--funny how football can become the common thread between people who normally might not have that much in common. Good luck in your coaching ambitions. When you get to UT, I'll call about those free season tickets...

Just kidding. UT games are so affordable compared to up here. I'll spend more money going to one OSU game (Buckeyes/Michigan State this November) than a two-day trip to Neyland for the Arkansas game, including gas, hotel and food.

I'll try to at least give you a discount :) but yea, I know I'll be at BG and OK and the prices aren't bad. I live about 3 minutes from Hendersonville High School and I half wanted to go interview their coach when JoeJuan Williams got disqualified for the season on how that will affect his game plans.

Its those goofy big 10 homers calling in that drive me crazy.

You ought to try LIVING up here with them. Shame they don't have their own call in show. But this I do have to say: the day after Alabama lost to Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl, Finebaum ate his crow with a lot of class and restraint considering some of the tools that called in. Love him or hate him, he's not afraid to take his lumps if he made the wrong call.

That being said, right now there are a couple of horrific Big Ten callers now who call up and say that Southerners are uneducated, inbred, responsible for racial tensions and blaming us for the riots, that we are cheaters, that we blahblahblah--and Finebaum is the best at absolute wrecking those asshats. One guy yesterday asked if he was related to George Wallace! Just freaking ridiculous.
