As we all know we finally have a team that can challenge for titles, something we have all been waiting for over a decade for. The patience that we have had to have will pay off in a big way, and I don't just mean for this season.

I would rather wait another 3 years to continue rebuilding to be a consistent winner than to be an Auburn-like school that habitually goes from the top to the bottom. I believe Butch has finally hit that foundation to launch off of, and regardless of whether or not this team actually wins the title this season, we have arrived. We will officially be entered into group of teams everyone will have to consider before they decide who will win the title. It's a great feeling to be back, and not just for a temporary visit. <-Ole Miss

The potential is definitely there, but let's string together a few 10+ win seasons first before we say we will be entered into that group. I think we can be a team like that, but it takes consistency. Let's get 10-11 wins this season and then work on building on that again in 2017 before we put ourselves there.

A loss is a loss but sometimes it's the way we have lost that bugs some Vol fans. It's always on the defense to keep them from scoring and at the same time it is the offense to keep scoring points to protect the win.

To run clock rather than to get points in a 1 score game is not protecting the defense or the win. And once you turn it down it's hard to turn it up again. Momentum is a key aspect of both a game and a season, get it rolling and never pump the brakes.

Go Vols!

Yet to be seen

Yes, you will be one of the ones when we lose a game calling for Butch's head. WE won 9 games last year almost 13, yet it isn't good enough for some. Sure I would like to go undefeated every year, but let's be realistic. We are very competitive now and it will continue. Let's be happy that we aren't bottom feeders now. We will win some championships, not every year more than likely but we are going to be consistently good.

Quite the contrary. 9 wins was an improvement from the previous year. However, this year has yet to be played. We are patiently waiting to see how well this team does THIS year.

Patience in rebuild..

Hey, if I wanted to have patience, I would have opted to be a doctor. I am a fan and I want W's.

For Butch to have UT back as a perennial threat then he has to recruit well. He sold the kids on playing time and turning the program around and being great again. If he can't get over the hump and start beating the big dogs then the kids will start to look else where. This recruiting class ranking was disappointing but expected. If he has another year of finishing middle of the SEC in recruiting it's not a good sign.

What's interesting to me is that some think this rebuild has been slow. From my perspective the rebuild began under Butch, so we are talking about being in 3 seasons. This program was almost totally depleted in athletes and in culture when Butch took over. Dooley's final two teams were not just bad, they were embarrassing! Very few developed players and a lazy, loser mentality and approach to the program is what Butch inherited. In Butch's first year we were getting run off the field by Oregon and the better teams we played because we just didn't have DEVELOPED players to get the job done. We were pathetically slow at nearly all positions. Fast forward to last year. Season three. Most of us are disappointed that we lost fourth quarter leads and still think about what could have been. When we stop to think about what really was happening, we see a team that took two playoff teams down to the wire and a team that played some really great football. Time will tell if Butch gets us to championships but none of us should discount what has happened on the hill and given the depths of what was inherited, this staff has done a remarkable and timely rebuild.

We're not "back" until we beat Florida. Period.:salute:

Brah. We had Peyton Manning and could not beat Florida.

So even at our pinnacle, we weren't beating Florida every year.

A win over the jorts is something to be savored. It's definitely not a low bar like you try to make it out to be.

The Vols were 9-4 last year and 7-5 in 2014, is this enough to say the Vols are back to the top?

He better beat GA and Bama this year, because the way they are recruiting, it is just going to get tougher.

The way I see it is that GA and Bama had better recruit well because we are recruiting very well and are just now getting to the point where we can be more selective about who we recruit. We have a very strong two-deep roster and we will continue to fill in the weaker spots this and future years. i don't understand what it takes for some posters on this board to realize what has happened over the last three years. Compare position by position and one will see that at almost all the second term players this year are better than the starters when CBJ arrived. I admit, we had some very good 5th year OL players who Dooley failed to recruit behind. We can now redshirt some very good players which was not the case until last year on the OL. Sit back and enjoy the season; it will be fun.

WRONG AGAIN. I will not be calling for his head. But saying Tennessee is back is premature. You people want the race results before a jockey even saddles up. Dang you people need to pump the brakes.

I'm not trying to be on the offensive here, but what makes you say this? He was hired December 7, 2012 (seems like a long time ago) and really only had 6-8 weeks to recruit players to a team that had gone 5-7 over all and 1-7 in the SEC. Still managed to piece together a top 25 recruiting class in the wake of Dooley. 2014 class ranked 7th, 2015 class ranked 4th, this year 14th. I don't think anyone saw this an a disappointment.

This years class we were limited since we didn't have as many scholarships to offer, but some of the top talent in the country could see what we're building (including 10 four star recruits, or 9 four star and 1 five star depending on who you talk to). Already this year we're in the top 5 schools for the most coveted recruits in 2017. I agree with what you're saying as far as beating the big dogs, but if there's one thing Butch is doing right it's recruiting the talent to beat the big dogs.

I agree that we have definitely improved, BUT we have not out recruited Bama since Saban arrived. Although I know it is early, and stars are not always correct, Bama has 10 4*s and 2 5*s and GA 8 4*s so FAR this year. UT has 3 4*s SO FAR. Even with an equally talented roster, Saban would beat us most of the time. So start throwing the stones!!!:hi: This year is our best chance to beat Bama.....
