She's a legend of the women's college BB game, has brought incredible good publicity and six national titles to UT. BUT: she can't seem to win the big game anymore. The LV's remain very formidable--they are in the hunt for a title amost every year--but there is always somebody better. Every year, for 10 PS's teams have been somewhere between #2 and #4/5 in the nation. That would be an enviable record for most programs, but it's been frustrating. Someone is always better--Uconn for years, and now the acc teams. The Vols have lost to the two best teams they've played this year.

PS's recruiting was a little spotty for several years--and her teams always seem thin, partly because every year there is one player who quits or transfers--every year. PS's biggest weakness is that she is not a good offensive coach--she's always been fanatical about defense and rebounding, and for a long time that was good enuf, but it's not anymore. You've got to be efficient on offense--and PS's team often aren't. More particuarly, she hasn't recruited well enuf at guard, and UT's centers for a decade have been miserable offensive players. PS signs centers with promising ability--but they NEVER develop offensively. PS could still win another title --or two, for that matter. Her teams are pretty much final four caliber every year. But the question is, can she get over the hump? It's been tough lately. This year's team is capable of winning it all--but it will probably have to beat two good acc teams to do it in the tourney/final four. I wish I were confident that they could do it. :hi:

I want to start out by saying I think Pat is a great coach and has done wonders for UT/women's basketball. However, her program has slipped mightly since 1998 and I'm not sure she will ever win another NC. In the last 9 games played at TB against top 10 teams Pat's record is a dismal 2-7 and 3 of those loses were blow-outs. There was a time when the LadyVols never lost at home; now teams like Duke/North Carolina waltz into TB and act like they own the place by their dominating performances. This team might get to the final 4 but chances are excellent that they will be sent packing in the semi-finals by either Duke/NC/Maryland. Maybe certain teams have caught and passed UT and just maybe Pat's time has come and gone.

I can't get into sports I can't talk about with people I know. How many people here can honestly say they get bragging rights from Basketball?

Women's Basketball? No. The only time anybody I know ever talks about the women's game was when Pat got her last big raise, when the women's team barely operates in the black.

But as far as the men go, yes, because I live north of Knoxville on I-75, not too far from Kentucky, and there are alot of Kentucky "fans". And the reason I put "fans" in quotes is because around here you hear alot of - "I'm a Tennessee football fan, but I like Kentucky in basketball." I hate hearing that!!

I just really don't understand how people can sat P.S. and the program haven't fallen back, but the football program has. I've heard people talk about there's more parity and whatever defending her, but those are the same things one could say for sec football. The football teams in the secE alone are better than they were in the 90s(GA, USC). I know all of this has been said before, just logically it doesn't make sense to me.
