I would think
that nobody $40 dollars to watch a good women's matchup because there is enough interest to put it on a major channel in a primetime spot.

Anyway, I enjoy wrestling about as much as you enjoy women's basketball and if you call WB a "niche" sport, you have to concede the fact that wrestling is also just that.
Do you want to wager on what more people watched last night? As I stated earlier, the WWE is on the highest rated network on cable every week. How often does ESPN put women's basketball on their flagship network. Raw is on in primetime on the top cable network every week. Also, when was the last time someone went from women's basketball to Hollywood? How many Summit 3:16 t shirts have you seen? Wrestling is mainstream entertainment. Phony basketball has a small, fringe element as its following.

Yeah, those weren't bad either. Maybe the older you get, the worse it is..

the music videos are pretty good though.

have you seen the 'd*** in a box' or 'chronicles or narnia' rap videos?

sorry, they're called the SNL Digital Shorts.

China would be a dominating center. I always thought Stephanie McMahon was smoking. Thickness.

it went downhill after Will Ferrell left.

what's the difference between ESPN selling advertising during one of their games and the WWE selling a PPV for $40 a pop without ads?
The difference is a gigantic financial disparity. I guarantee ESPN did not receive $40 million in ad revenue during the game last night.

Ok ok, settle down. The whole point was that wrestling could also be considered a "niche sport"... Just admit it. :pinch:

I knew it was coming when I read this much of the original post:

"want to start out by saying I think Pat is a great coach and has done wonders for UT/women's basketball. However"

More negativism. Let's fire ALL the UT coaches then no one can complain.

speak for yourself. Of course they would care.
I would not care. The Lady Vols used to serve a kind of theraputic purpose for Vols football fans. When we fell short, we could at least convince ourselves that UT still has national prominence in at least 1 major sport (albeit, that major sport was a female sport.) Bruce Pearl has now put the UT Men's Basketball team in a position to fill that role. Every year the men do well is a year the Lady Vols will slip further from the minds of UT fans.

i like how you started your post, but have to disagree a little bit with how you finished it. While I am not a huge Lady Vols fanatic, I do follow them. There are thousands and thousands of absolute Lady Vol fanatics. They aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Just because you may not be a fan or care about them, don't lump everyone into this idea that no one cares about the Lady Vols. Go to their games... Especially the road games. these people travel everywhere to see them. When I watched them play ODU here in Norfolk, it was the third largest crowd for a women's game at the Ted. 2/3 of that crowd was clad in orange (and that powder blue).

I started to flat 'go off' when I heard the term 'phony' being used in reference to the Lady Vols, but respect Hat's opinion, so had to dwell on it. (tell an athlete that took a game from 28-7 to a tie game by 64 that they are phony) But, indeed, it isn't as interesting or near the athletic quality of the men. In the fall, I am crazy about football, winter- both ladies and men's hoops. spring - couldn't care less about baseball or track and field. To each their own...

I can't get into sports I can't talk about with people I know. How many people here can honestly say they get bragging rights from Basketball?

That Narnia gag was the worst piece of crap I've ever seen. Right up there with Ishtar.

I agree with all of the responses that said women's basketball has improved all around and that the talent is spread among multiple colleges and not just one or two. However, no one mentioned that it is because of Pat that this happened. Pat's time will never end until she decide she wants it to end. She is the best coach of all time, mens or women. 930+ wins means that she is consistent. She may not have won a NC since 98 but she still has 25+ games winning seasons on a yearly basis. How dare anyone say she is done. It is because of her level of excellent that there are women's games on national television not to mention on ESPN. It is because of her that women like her former player Kara Lawson has a sports caster's job on ESPN. She has made Title 9 a meaningful thing nationwise. She has done for women's athletics what Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife did for civil rights It is all because of her that young girls can dream of playing professional basketball and actually achieve that dream. She is the best and most of all she still gets on national television and talks of her normal homelife of rising puppies. What a great human being! UT is lucky to still have her!

and she is the head coach at Kentucky. I think Mickie definitely was the glue. The Offensive sets have not been as organized as when Mickie was there. I don't know how much she did with Offense but I do think the Lady Vols do need a bit more organized offense. At times it seems they get too out of control. It is great when they score on fast wild breaks but sometimes Hornbuckle gets going to fast and gets caught up and turns the ball over. I saw last night as they played Vanderbilt they do have some sets for Spenser to shoot the three but they need more like that. She is the top 3 point shooter in the nation but in some games Hornbuckle and Parker forget about her. She is like Shona Zolman from last year's team who often got forgotten. It is great when Hornbuckle does the behind the back pass to Parker but it is not so great when she gets caught up in the air with no where to go. I just think Pat has given her to much freedom to create and I question that as some one who very much enjoys teaching and creating offensive designs. When Pat challenges Parker she gets down to business but if Parker wants to be remember like Holdsclaw is and have a street on the UT campus named after her I suggest she get down to business every game. She is the best player in college basketball but that doesn't mean she still doesn't have to work each game. Pat, if you read these posts I am available to come to Tennessee and be your offensive coordinator. Just let me know.

Pat Summit = 90% of the Lady Vols ALL-TIME wins.

When you have a coach that wins 90% of all the school games then you have a GREAT coach. Anyone who thinks Summit has slipped is an IDIOT. Just like has been stated, women's b-ball talent has risen and the sport has gotten better. You can't win them all, but Summit has won most. BTW she is 100 times better of a coach than CPF so don't even try to compare. She actually does something with the talent she has. She has won 13 SEC championships as opposed to CPF's 1. When she finally retires, I am gonna be VERY sad and I hope that we can stay in the Top 5 in women's teams every year.
