Pat Summitt on Violating NCAA Rules

There isn't much money to be made in women's college basketball. Therefore, cheating rarely occurs.

They do!

Cant compare womans b-ball with mens basketball and football. It is not even comparable!

I cant believe there are still people who dont believe everyone breaks the rules at least sometimes.

:good!:
We have several members who don't even fudge on their
taxes, are completely honest, and soon to be canonized.
So greatful for all these saints:eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol:

I truly believe anyone can change for the better. If a decade passes and he has no further ethical issues, I will likley feel different about him, but this lie is somewhat telling about his character.

Eh, somewhat. One lie really doesn't tell me much other than it's fodder for the excessive media coverage which often fails to differentiate between major and minor offenses. I hate to do the whole "everybody lies", but, well, everybody does. Hell, I've lied to a cop to get out of a ticket and I consider myself to have a pretty good character and sense of morality.

So, yeah, it's not good, but, to me, there's quite a difference between one lie trying to save your ass in a particular situation and a pattern of lying and corruption. I've seen the former from Pearl, but not the latter (yet). Essentially, I feel more like a disappointed parent than someone who holds him in contempt, if that makes sense.

I've never intentionally lied to my professional counterparts. And I think my character is pretty unrightousness.

supporting a person you know and thinking they should keep their position are 2 different things. She's been around long enough to know what the statement quoted in the OP would mean

Whet you are saying is not true. She supports Him fully.

Seems that she is clear on her support for Pearl---he should be fired. Guess he won't be consulting with her as much this year.

What was she supposed to say? That she supports Pearl's actions? This isn't even remotely a story. She answered as she should.

Agreed . . . and now it seems she is not very happy that the comment was taken out of context.

After stating her support for Pearl, whose program has been the subject of an NCAA investigation, Summitt was asked whether it was easy for a coach to make “a mistake in judgment’’ and push “into the gray area’’ of recruiting. She interrupted the train of thought by asking “For me?” and went on to say, “I’ve never compromised at all and I wouldn’t and if I did, they should fire me. I’ve been there too long.”

“They’re making something out of it that it’s not,’’ she said. “I’m not going away without scoring some punches myself. Bruce Pearl never entered my mind. It’s not fair.”
“I made it very clear, I support Bruce and he supports me. I think people are just looking for stuff. All I care about now is this doesn’t affect Bruce. He’s been through enough.”

I honestly didn't try to take it out of context. I was in class, and my buddy showed me people quoting it on Twitter. I posted exactly what was being said. I apologize if it was out of context as that was honestly not my intent.

Owning up SHOULD count for something when the intent is clear. I'm still waiting for all the facts here but a lot of people are getting Pearl's back which makes me think this could all be over in a sense. The self-imposed sanctions may clearly suffice and those always in his corner can return to our hero worship knowing he just made a few minor and one major mistakes. I've been guilty of hypocrisy. And I am constantly amazed and in concord with the ability of most Americans to forgive but not forget and watch a man on the other side of a scandal so public in nature redeem himself. Brian Williams and Janzen come immediately to mind.

Sorry for the rant. I just always try to look for the good in every bad situation.

Me either. The list of people that hold themselves to a higher ethical standard than Bruce the Great is quite large, I would imagine. That's tough for the Pearlophiles to admit though.

:eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol:

Don't you mean the list of people that claim a higher ethical standard is a pretty long list.
