How much does the womens team gross from ticket sales? Maybe 2 million?

This is only fueling the speculation that in order for Pearl to get a raise, Summitt has to get one.

And those people will be crowing about this for the months to come.

I wonder how much of a raise Pearl will get?

I have no idea, but that is only a part of the revenue the women's basketball, or any program for that matter, generates. Add concessions, TV revenues, and merchandising and licensing dollares generated by all of the Lady Vols fans, and you will come closer to the value of the program.

...also add the immeasurable impact of the free positive publicity she generates for the school . She's also probably one of the few women's basketball coaches that can have any impact on fundraising whatsoever.

I think the only one fueling this speculation is you.

Pat did not get a raise
She got 1.1 million salary, 250,000 for winning the NC, 25,000 for being named SEC Coach of the Year and If the team reaches its academic goals she will recieve 50,000 for a total of 1.45 million. According to Cronan the contract Summitt signed last year is structured so that it will not have to be reworked the rest of this decade. So 1.1 million in salary and 350,000 in bonuses.

With bonuses Pearl will make around 1.3 million this year

Give her what she is worth. She deserves to be the highest paid woman's coach. But also pay Pearl what he is worth. It's time to separate the pay scale between the two. He's had an excellent year and is one of the hottest coaches in the country and his pay needs to reflect that. As long as he is making mid SEC pay, then we stand a chance at losing him every year. Pat has got 1.1 reasons not to be upset that the men's coach is making more than her.

That makes more sense. She got a huge raise when Pearl was hired I think. But her making more then Pearl this year doesn't sound right.

She gets 1.1million to guarantee ~30 wins, SEC crowns, and final four appearances.

Pearl gets 1.1 million to do whatever he can to be semi-competitive.

Pat got incentives from winning the NC and other things.

Pearl got to the Sweet 16 and that's it.

This isn't to belittle Pearl's amazing accomplishments so quickly, it's just to say that even though they're being paid the same, the expectations for each are TOTALLY different right now.

Just compare the revenue generated by the men's BB program to the womens BB and there are few scenario's where the women's coach should make more then the men's.

Yes Pat's a great coach. But coaches salaries are a reflection of the revenue their program generates, or they should be.

And, as proven before, they are done through 2 different AD's. Should JC and MH consult each other during contract negotiations?

Pearl should be paid more

why? a sweet sixteen trip or a national title? just because you don't like women's basketball doesn't mean a men's coach automatically deserves more. pearl can win 7 titles then he talk about getting more. he's even admitted he hasn't done nearly as much pat and he doesn't think he should make more.

Anyone who believes this needs to do nothing more then compare the revenue generated from the men's program and the women's program.

The only scenario the women's coach should make more then a men's is when the women's program makes more revenue. Does anyone think the athletic programs doesnt have a business model where revenue is allocated and invested.

do you realize how much money the school makes for each advancement in the tournaments? do you have the facts to back up how much more in ticket sales and merchandise the men's team makes over the women's?
