Pat Forde Picks Vols to lose to Cincy

I am not sure you have been paying that much attention. Where did you get that I have faith in UC? Right now, what I have is hope and a lot of unanswered questions. Read my posts here - I have admitted our shortcomings and the questions about our team.

We didn't learn much other than our defense is more opportunistic than last year.

What puzzles me is that so many of your fans don't see the similarities between these two teams. UT and UC are both coming off sub-par seasons. Both teams have a lot of young talent that is not yet proven. Both teams have significant questions.

This game is going to be telling for both teams. We are both going to know more about how our season will look after this game. Good luck!! See you Saturday.

U learn nothing from playing austin peay

I couldn't agree more. Cincys defense is on par with Montana's

beg to differ,,,Montana has a much better linebacking and dline corp. I also watched the replay Cin vs AP and saw a defense that UT will run on. Look for Poole and Lane to have big yardage. Cincy's offense has Collaros. Pead is average. AP didn't even show up in the second half. Collaros has a deep ball,,but his short passes will get his receivers knocked senseless. UT 47 - Cincy 24. And Brewer decleats Pead. And at minimum, Collaros throws two interceptions - at minimum.

So did cinci add any quality jucos or touted freshmen to help their defense this year?

This will not be a close game... Running the ball will take a lot of stress off of the defense, but we will win this game regardless of whether or not we can run the ball.

Vols win by 2 or more TDs due to Cinci's terrible secondary.

Except that Montana did that mostly against the UT first-team defense.

UT allowed 140 yards in the entire 1st Half out of a total of 7 Montana possessions.

1 drive was 8 plays 42 yards.

1 drive was 1 play 80 yards.

1 drive was 6 plays 12 yards.

The other 4 were 3-and-outs.

Color me unimpressed with Montana's ability to consistently move against UT's defense. I'm not saying that UT will handle Cincinnati's O like this but using that one game and a busted play isn't indicative of anything.

Using your logic Alabama is in for a hard time this year. 2 QBs combined for 4 INTs and Trent Richardson netted 2.8YPC against Kent State. A fool is someone who would look at that and think that those problems (much like our Freshman CB that gave up the 80 yard play listed above) aren't going to be rectified.

And UT did start heavily rotating their 2nd/3rd Stringers in on Defense in the 2nd Half. Art Evans (who had the pick-6) is our 2nd String CB behind Teague.

Agreed. You must have watched the replay. Not that we take Cincy lightly, but come out ramming the ball down their gullet. And continue to ram it. Wouldn't bother me if we didn't toss a pass all game,,just to keep it within two touchdowns.

i bet we put 50 on them and they might get 20

How many juniors and seniors do they have? Why, because those guys have all been to two BCS Bowl Games. [/U][/B]How many of our guys have been to BCS bowls? Ok, but I think we will still win because of Neyland Stadium. Last year could have been the fluke year for those guys and this could be the redemption year.

We need turnovers and big plays. I fear their qb. If we get big plays early and get the crowd going, then.....
45-21 good guys.

Go Vols! and please don't let it storm again.

We would do the same thing to AP as they did.

Nope we would not cause Dooley would have had to call off the dogs in the first quarter. Cincy had 500+ total yards against a team that has lost 9 in a row. Not saying Cincy not a good team cause they are but almost anybody could have done that to them.

Understand that Evans is a 2. He must have rotated in for Teague on that play, because Teague made the tackle on the play before.

Unlike on offense, second-team defenders are always rotating in and out on defense. It's the only way to keep fresh defenders on the field. Defense takes much more energy to play than offense, so substitution is much more important. The Tennessee starting D was still making tackles in the 4th quarter. Can't say the same about UC's starting D, who didn't play in the second half.

Your argument that the UT starters were out of the game in the second half doesn't hold water. Some of them were clearly playing til the end of the game.

As for the transitive argument about Alabama, you can get away with 5 turnovers when your defense holds the other team to 1.7 yards per offensive play. UT didn't do that last Saturday, and is substantially less likely to do it this Saturday.

As in most football games, turnovers and line play will be the key deciders.

Skewing statistics to criticize our defense is a double-edged sword. One play was worth 80 yards due to a Freshman being lost and getting burned. That skews the entire game.

You take away the one play, and we gave up one touchdown with our second unit. Dooley said it was our second unit. I will take Dooley's word over a guy who initially thought that our D gave up 26 points.

Isn't that freshman a starter on the UT defense? Maybe Cincinnati will exploit him more often than Montana could?

I acknowledge my previous error, and the fact that the second Montana was scored against mostly 2nd-unit players. But the UT play-by-play shows AJ Johnson and Curt Maggitt making tackles on that drive. Aren't they starting linebackers? That's what the depth chart posted on this board says. Maybe that changed?

True Freshmen get reps throughout blowouts. Our two-deep on defense is not like other schools. We have had 3 coaches in 4 years.

Fans are supposed to look past this week's opponent, that's what they do..

Tennessee 47 Cincinnati 24

The freshman who got burned on the 80-yard TD in the 2nd quarter was Justin Coleman, right? Isn't he a tarting corner? Or was it someone else who was not a starter?

Just for curiosity's sake, how his your 2-deep on defense not like other schools'?

If coaching changes is an excuse for defensive problems, then we have you beat. This is the first year that we have the same coordinators running the same system for two years in a row in over 5 years. Fropm 2006 to present, we have had four coordinator changes and at least three changes in system.

i asked my granny to read her coffee grounds regarding the outcome of this game. she said: "that forde guy is a moron, UT will win, but it will be close"

I'm glad everyone is so confident in a win around here.

I like our chances, but those spread offenses are tricky.

For us to win and win convincingly, we must implement the General's Maxims and Coach Major's philosophy, Attack, Attack, always Attack.

We have to dominate the line of scrimage and take advantage of every opportunity. When the going gets tough the Vols come into their own. Smack them in the mouth and put a slobber-knocker on them on every play. Make them rue the day they stepped off the bus in Knoxville. When they get back to Chincynattey, we want them crying about the pain and agony they received in Neyland Stadium. Let's make them convince their athletic director to never schedule another SEC Game.

To win, we absolutely have to establish an unstoppable running game and that will assure us an indefensable passing game.

Don't forget these Bearcats have never faced the tenacity and savagery of the hits they will face on Saturday. Pound the Stone and Run to Victory!
