Pastner vs. Cuonzo? Fight to the Death!

I don't know what the bolded means, other than it probably indicates you are a moron. 10-14 Rutgers-that's their record genius. They were #24 last week when they played the Gonzaga game you referenced (who by the way, also lost to the Portland Pilots). "36 years old and improved each year" is exactly what people say about someone not getting the job done, and like I said, he may eventually be a good coach, but he's not right now.

As far as him v Martin, it's hard to say. The talent levels aren't even close. Martin has beaten better teams. The very fact that it's even close tells you all you need to know about Pastner.

Hell, all I heard about Martin preseason is that he had at least sweet sixteen talent and was equal or better than Memphis .......what happened? In case you didn't know, recruiting is part of the head coaching job. Moron? That's cute. Now go back to sleep. :salute:

BTW, since you can't read well, the point was that Memphis beat up on Rutgers just like they were supposed to......31/32 points. Not a signature win UTgrauite. They had a off night and beat UCF by 6.......Syracuse had an off night and won by 2 on a last second shot. Fire the coach. He's sucks, can't win by doble digits. That happens. You're gauging Gonzaga by a loss to Portland........that's brilliant.

If all you heard was that Martin had sweet sixteen talent, you should probably quit getting your basketball information from your mother.

Dude, learn to read if you're going to post. I know that being a garuiate don't teach you none of that stuff. But show me where I said Jackson would be drafted in the NBA. Joe Jackson is 5'10"-5'11". Had to get an NBA job with those specs. He's a top 15 PG in the NCAA (that's college btw).

I have been told he is a legitimate 6'0"-6'1", but that isn't that much of a difference. I know someone personally who shot baskets with him for quite a while one day, and they were comparing heights. I was actually surprised.

Joe needs to model himself after Mike Conley. Just like Mike, he needs to improve his outside shot.

He's not. I've stood beside him many times. He's pushing 6'. He's also pretty thin. I don't know if putting on weight would affect his speed. He's currently <170. His outside shot was very good last year but hasn't been on that much this year. He can shoot it though. Could use improvement. Conley would be a perfect model for him. Conley has steadily improved his shot.

Just an FYI (not for you, for the grad guy), some NBA 2014 prospects do list Jackson in the top 15.

Lol yeah, because height and length aren't useful in college? Joe isn't top 15, no matter how many times you say it. But again, if he is, doesn't that again speak to how little Josh has gotten from all of this talent?

10-14 Rutgers? I don't know what that means. They beat Rutgers by 32 only because the walkons finished the game. Smart had the flu......:eek:hmy:.....you can probably find someone not feeling well in any game played, Ask Michael Jordan. Check the paper, they are #20 right now. I said Jackson is a top 10-15 PG, he is. Name 15 better. No man crush, he's just not a bad coach as you would have everyone believe. He's 36 years old and has improved each year. Who would you rather have? Martin or Pastner? Yep, forgotten unlike Vols. :loco:

Ask Shaq Goodwin what he attributes his improvement to. He will tell you working with Pastner and Robert Kirby. You can go back to sleep now.

Are there better coaches out there? Sure. Would I rather have someone else right now? Probably not. Why would you get rid of someone that's won 20 games every year and 30 in a couple for an unknown? Will Paster ever get an NC? Probably not. Who knows if coach K ever gets one again. That's a long shot for just about any coach. Will Pastner get to the final four? Maybe. I feel certain he has a better chance of getting there than a ton of D1 coaches out there. So why should Memphis not support him until he shows he can't do the job. He'll be around a lot longer than Martin will. :salute:

I sure as hell hope Pastner is there longer than Martin. I enjoy listening to the drama Memphis radio after a loss.

Well, I can't say from personal experience, but the person I know was very surprised how tall he was. I can't argue over an inch because the eye can't really tell a difference. Conley has put on muscle since going into the NBA, so that is something that can be done.

Poor old Joe. Hasn't improved a bit, Pastner getting so little out of him---

through all that and still named to final 30 for Naismith award today.

I think Joe is a good college PG, and as I stated, he should try to be like Mike Conley. But, Jarnell Stokes has improved quite a bit, and many of our fans aren't confident in Counzo Martin. That doesn't always correlate.

Yep, you're right 19-5 this year is terrible.
30-4 ('13)
26-9 ('12)
25-10 ('11)
24-10 ('10)
Regular season.............he should be fired. Maybe we can get Martin.....no, he'll be a Vol at least another year.

Look at some of the recent rosters in college. Look at Florida's guards this year, Missouri's the past 3 years. Many other high level D1 schools have PGs under 6'. Doesn't matter as much in college brother. There are a few more teams to fill out in the NCAA.

I agree Gee. The player has got to want to get better. When you see some of the guys in the gym shooting for a couple of hours after practice, it's a good sign. I know Stokes has ambitions to make the league. He can do it. He's got some work to do with his handles, I think. Great rebounder for his height.

Memphis gets elite talent year in and year out, but tell me one that Josh has gotten in the league that has done anything. I hate to ruin your man crush, but there isn't one. Memphis is where elite prospects go to be forgotten.

Let's put this "Josh has top ten talent" rumor to the test

Year 1 - He inherits a team consisting of all the players Calipari didn't want and adds Elliot Williams and a few JUCO players and finishes 24 - 10 with an NIT bid

Year 2 - He had a top 5 recruiting class, but he really didn't. That class never played a game together because Jelan Kendrick was kicked off the team before he ever played a game. Another member of that class was Tarik Black a top 50 recruit that was, well, just overrated. (He's averaging 7.5 a game for Bill Self at Kansas as a reserve). That class was asked to replace basically the entire starting 5 from the year before. They finish 25-10 with an NCAA Bid

Year 3 - They add Adonis Thomas but he is quickly injured and never returned to his five star status (He wasn't drafted after declaring). So they basically stand pat and finish 26 - 9 and another NCAA bid

Year 4 - They lose their leading scorer Will Barton and add two 4 star recruits and 1 three star. Adonis returns from injury, but he's never the player he was. Memphis finishes 31-5 including 16-0 in CUSA and gets their first NCAA tournament win under Pastner

Year 5 - Pastner signs his 2nd top 5 class and now after the year plays out we will see if he can do anything with this group. He already has Top 25 wins over OSU, Louisville, Gonzaga and they played Florida to within a bucket and had the ball with a chance to win that game. I like where Pastner has this team going. Consistantly in the top 25, NCAA bids, great graduation rates, great recruiter, up and coming coach that is thought well of by all his peers. I hope he is at Memphis for the long haul, because we could definitely do worse............

And just today we learn that he suspended a player for cursing on the bench with a top 25 matchup with UConn coming, yep I'll take Pastner

BTW for the record I am a lifelong Vols and Memphis Fan. I've lived in Tennessee all my life and have supported both Universities.

What do I have to do BTO to prove it to you, show you the ticket stubs to UT football games I've attended or post a pick of all my UT gear hanging in the closet next to my U of M gear. Tell you what when I attend my next UT game I'll message you on this board and we can trade a cold one

Just giving you a hard time man.

There was a poster saying the same for months and then he came out of the closet and admitted to being a tigers fan posing as a vols fan.

No problem, I joined this forum to keep pace with the Dooley situation as I hated that hire and just kind of migrated over to the basketball forums. IMO fans over-react to a loss or a near miss on every board I'm a member of (I've raised two LSU die hards). Let the season play out and then we can judge who did what with the talent they had. If CM goes on a run in the Tx and makes and SS or E8 run he will all the sudden look like a solid hire. Likewise if Pastner bows out with a first round loss to a much lower seed the questions about his coaching ability will seem valid. The offer for a cold one stands

I'm always down for a beer, Davincis is a great spot, terrific employees.

The other night after the Gonzaga game Joe was talking to the WMC sports guy and he said he was 5'8.

Like I've said, the AAC is better, but the fact you have to go to great lengths to defend that notion is evidence enough that it's not a "loaded" league.

It's a 4-5 bid league, not all that much better than the SEC.

With only 10 teams in it. That's purely dumb logic on your part.

5/10 > 5/14.
