KC, let me first say i'm glad that avatar is back. Secondly, why aren't you going to be in Knoxville much longer?

I'm glad the avatar is back too. I've decided I don't want to pay the out of state anymore so I'm out of here, but my parents are talking about moving to Nashville and after they are there for a year I could get instate at UT. Don't know where I'll be in the fall which sucks.

I wondered the same.

As for my pasttimes: playing with my kids, taking the family (including the dog) to the park for walks, swimming in the summer and karate.

out of state tuition sucks I know... I'll be paying Sallie Mae for quite a while since i decided to take the private school undergrad route and then out of state for my masters. In the long, I think i'll be happier. But you're not me. Do what you think is best for you.

Not being able to get full scholarships stinks. Milligan gave me 1/2, which is about the best you get there. I basically had the ride to UT, but didn't take it. Got some off at ODU, but not nearly enough.

Well, my problem is I'm paying out of state for something that I can't really appreciate at the moment. I was thinking about taking some time off from school before I came to UT, but thought since UT was my dream school it might rekindle my motivation for college. Which was completely the wrong thing to do. So I think I just need a break from school to kind of get my head on straight. I don't know.

I've always wanted to do martial arts. I almost did Hapkido a few years back but I didn't for some reason that slips my mind. That will be on my list of things to do before I die.

It was something I had always wanted to do, also. It has been part of my effort to be more healthy that I started several months ago.

I ended up settling on American Kenpo after looking around because of the practical self defense aspect of that art.

Well that's another thing, I have no idea what I want to do. Right now I'm undecided b/c UT wouldn't let me be anything else, but I suppose it fits me well. Honestly, college is just difficult when you don't have much direction on what you want to do, or it is for me at least. Right now college just feels like something I have to do because my parents want me to. It shouldn't feel like that. It should be something I want to do. Idk I've got all kinds of things to figure out I suppose.

Not too familiar with American Kenpo. I just looked at Hapkido b/c I had a friend doing it and he'd always show me ways to break someone's limbs or something. I also wouldn't mind taking a weapons class sometime, just b/c it seems interesting.

well, just more of my two cents, but you'll never know what you want to do unless you start trying things. Take some intro classes to majors that you think might be interesting to you or try to get an entry level job somewhere of something you may want to be interested in and see what happens. I just knew I wanted to be a sports reporter. I liked doing it at Milligan, I liked every aspect, until I started working at a television station and realized I hated how many places you get drug into and how little sports you actually get to enjoy. So I went back to school and realized i like the entire event itself. From organizing it to putting it on and then reporting about it. And I've found what i want to do. In a few weeks i'll get my degree and now I just have to find that job. So just search around and figure out what you like to do and then go from there. If you hate what you wind up doing, all the money in the world won't make it that much fun.

I've always honestly appreciated your insight Bill. And congrats on getting your degree. I'm just the epitome of the undecided college student. I know I'm not the only one. I'd like to take some time off and work full time, hopefully in something that I'm interested in. I'm just not even completely sure what I'm interested in.

thanks a lot. But you'll figure it out. I've never been one of those who think you have to rush through college just because it's college and it's what you're supposed to do. You're still young and you've got time. Don't let the rush get to you, just let it come to you. Not sure how religious you are, but for me, prayer always helps me in my times of indecision. Just be prepared because you might be shocked at the answer you get. 4 years ago I would've sworn I wasn't ever going back to college and I did.

I'm pretty religious, despite my avatar. I pray about it often, but I seem to enjoy despair over anything else. I'm a natural pessimist. I have no doubt I'll figure it out eventually, I just have a feeling it may take a long long time.

I took a year off before I ever came up here. It was the best thing I ever did.

One) I partied my ass off and calm downed a little before I got up here.

Two) Working in construction everyday sucked. It made me realize swinging a hammer is no way to spend your life.

Three) I had some money in my pocket so that made everything a little easier.

Four) That year made me realize what I wanted to do once I got to school. I then went on to change my major :)

Point being, don't rush it. School sucks if you let it get to you.

I'm with volfanbill, take some intro classes and see what you like.
