I heard on NPR the other day that only about 25% of Americans own a valid US passport.

How many of you folks keep a valid passport? Do you use it frequently for travel? Do you keep it solely for ID purpose?
I have sadly never traveled outside American boarders and have never felt the need to get a passport, though recently I have been considering obtaining one just on general principles(for the heck of it)...

I've got one. Travel to Germany on business and to visit family. Pretty much have always had one since birth because my dad was in the army. Always on the go.

I've never been farther west than Nashville, much less out of the country.

I thought you needed one to be allowed out of Tennessee. Is that not correct? If not, they ought to consider it.

little pricey to have just for the heck of it. Just registered for mine the other day, cost me right at $200. But part of that was getting it expedited so i can have it to go on my weddingmoon in exactly five weeks tomorrow. Eight days and seven nights in Antigua. I have two words....Rum Punch!!!!!!!!

Don't have one but plan to get one.

I've been to Canada a few times, Jamaica and the US Virgin Islands - none of these required a passport.
