Parrish article on Martin's exit

You didn't see the interviews with hubbs and richardson
Posted via VolNation Mobile

Richardson's tweet right after Martin announced he was going to Cal definitely didn't seem like he was shocked. I do recall Hubbs being surprised though, had forgotten about that.

Cuonzo is and will continue to be one of the many hardworking b-ball coaches in the middle. You know, they can either recruit, game-coach, motivate, or provide discipline in a program but they can't do all of them and hence, never break out of the pack. Most conferences are filled with these guys. Nice guys, mean well, not going to take a program anywhere. They'll rotate in and out and be forgotten in a few years.

I don't dislike him, hoped he would do better. In fact, I liked the apparent integrity he had, but his resume didn't suggest that he would succeed.

just a step behind man. Slow in recruiting. Slow to adjust during the season. Slow to adjust during games. Slow to anticipate opponents moves. Not enough film work on the opponent with plans to counter.

Seems like a solid man that has been thru the ringer medically, and mentally, but it was if he was watching the game as a fan and reacting, rather than seeing more and anticipating.
Prime example is Stokes not facing up until late last year, when the kid had shown good hands and dribbling ability as well as a midrange shot in his first college game at UK. Then we saw him with his back to the basket on the low block for 2 years and many winnable games lost. Stokes is even able to separate and loves Martin as a man but knows and has said he wasn't able to show his skill set.
It was obvious that Stokes wanted to get out and run the court and wanted to face up. When Martin finally did it, we won 8-9 in a row. Stokes wasn't stuck on the low block down the stretch. Again, 2 years too late.
Solid post. He failed to adjust before games; it always seemed he finally figured out a plan with 5 minutes to go in the second half. Too many games were lost because of slow coaching imo.

1st Xavier game is a good example. Several of us here had discussions about getting up and down the court prior to game one and not getting caught in a halfcourt game. We did the opposite and let a slow oaf control the game on both ends.
Then we play them again, the gameplan many of us wanted the first time is implemented, and slow oaf only plays a few minutes, is a nonfactor and the game wasn't really close.
It shouldn't have taken a loss to know how to play against them.

"I honestly think me leaving is good for me and probably good for Tennessee," Martin concluded.

I believe this is true.

CBS and Parrish with yet another baseless accusation of racism against the Vol Nation. This accusation has been levied repeatedly in the national media. Never, afaik in the local media. Not one single shred of evidence has ever been presented that I've seen. And I personally have never heard one single slur against CCMs "race" from his hiring until his retiring. And I'm as white as a refrigerator!

Also, the national media is incapable or unwilling to report the real reason for fan disapproval and thus the petition. This article only touches on it but makes good points @ the Pearl Effect".

CCM was squandering an experienced and talented roster, recruiting in a very pedestrian way, and that following two "trips" to the NIT with losses to small programs, one of them our in state "little brother" in our own arena! It's very simple, but it's obviously not as marketable as the deceptive "sweet 16 overachiever fable" presented by CBS.

I'm truly happy for CCM because I really like his character. I'm also truly happy that he's in Cali instead of Knoxville, as a Vol BB fan.

Spot on! I was very supportive of him mostly because he seemed to be a great guy, but when he was wasting a talented team and made ZERO EFFORT to connect with fans either by allowing to come to practice or something, I like many others was ready to move on.

Ugh, Stainbrook. It was embarrassing how much he dominated the post against us in the first game.

i am so glad he is gone, why do you keep bringing him up, please just move to cal and keep up with him and please dont post about him anymore

Good for Martin because he got another three year contract instead of getting fired after the next season. Good for Tennessee because we got Tyndall.

Martin seems like a good guy, but he was simply in over his head at UT

Disagree that Martin was in over his head, likewise I disagree with the article that race played a role. If Martin had made the tourny the first 2 years everyone would have loved him.....Period! I guess Jerry Green was hated because he was white....oh wait!

pg play got worse game after game under CCM. Basketball is a tournament sport. The tournament is mostly about guard play. If CCM left because he's black, oh well, at least he left.

Nice guy. Average coach. (average coach in a below average league btw)

Will Donnie still be loved if he wins 12 games this season?

I appauld CCM for the tourney run. I seen fire in him for the first time during the tourney. His coaching in the regular season was sub par. He had 3 possible future NBA players on his rooster and only made the tourney as a play-in team because of some very embarrassing loses during the season. I for one am glad he is gone, skin color has nothing to do with it, it is his sub par coaching.
