Every year a group of friends journey to a different college football game as a sort of reunion. This year we are desending on VOLS Nation for the Bama game on the 25th. As out of towners, where should we park. We need a place to tailgate. Looking for advice on not only where to park but also how to obtain any passes. Cost not that big of an issue. THANKS

There's a Walgreens on the Strip (Cumberland Ave.). A block behind it there is a public parking lot. I think I usually pay $35 for a space. I think it's a great location, just get there at least 3-4 hours before the game. Relatively close to the stadium, and of course very close to stores on the Strip if you forget something.

I park for free on the street. Get there early enough, and there's no issue parking on campus at a meter. Volunteer Blvd has a few normally. I tailgate up on campus, though. Really it just depends on where you want tailgate/take in the festivities. If you're looking at sticking around the strip, you'll either have to pay, or park on the street way back in the Fort, which is parking at your own risk.

Thanks...I think I need to be more clear. What we are looking for or have done in the past is find a parking lot or field that is fairly large so that we really soak up the atmosphere and also with full tailgating type opportunities like grilling, tents, etc... For example at Michigan last year we ended up on a golf course with thousands of others.

I know we'd have to pay and we are ok with it but just don't know where or how....

Some buddies of mine do the exact same thing every year. This year we are driving an RV to the UT/GA game. Does anyone have any experience tailgating in the Blackstock lot (@ 640 Blackstock Ave)? If so, how is it? We always root for the home team wherever we go, if that makes a difference, :) Since we won't have a permit to park on campus, this seems to be our only option. It looks like it's a little less than a mile walk to the stadium and then to the bars in Old Town Knoxville. Any advice or info is appreciated!

That's across the tracks north of campus. I don't know about that specific lot, but I park in a free lot just east of there if I'm not tailgating (the Valarium). There probably is some tailgating going on there because it's right at 17th, but I personally wouldn't pre-game that far from the stadium. And its far from your only option. Get there early and you can tailgate right on campus on Lake Ave, for free.

I understand what you're saying, but our only mode of transportation will be the 28 foot RV that we're driving to the game. IAccording to the official UT website, that's the only lot that allows RV's. Do you know of any others?

If money is no object why not rent a houseboat and join the Vol Navy?

Be careful this year---I heard the knoxville police is cracking down on all open containers at any tailgate party, even in private lots, parking lots, etc.. They will be issuing tons of citations to raise cash, since their revenues are way down.
