Parking Spots -- Need Advice

Lot 40 is the one near the softball fields right?

I parked there for a couple of years. It wasn't bad. They used to have a train that ran from that lot to TBA but I don't think it runs anymore.

I park at Locust St garage now. It's super easy to get out of if you're going North or East after a game.

Slightly off topic but Donors just got emails for Parking Passes... I got moved from Ag to Lot 40. Said demand was high and all passes have been sold for the year.

I also got moved from ag to 40. I'm not familiar w that lot. Not easy access to highway like Ag. anyone On here parked here before?

it is up by Tyson Park, more North and kinda by itself.

This is my first year with parking and I got the Locust St. parking garage. Wouldn't be bad except for the fact that I'm coming from the West so going to have to deal with going through all of that traffic on the way home... Any of you know if it's a decent place to tailgate or tailgate yourselves at that garage?

There's a handful of people tailgating on the top deck of the garage every week. It's too far from campus to really do any serious tailgating though IMO.

I would recommend going east, then hitting 640 to eventually go west.

This is my 9th year getting a parking pass each year I kept getting closer to stadium started at lot 40 when they were not running a shuttle. Last year got 11th st garage figured I would get same or better but NO! with this new format with the 3 different levels for giving they shoved me back out to the AG lot which sucks cause my friends I join for tailgating are in G10 and we start tailgating 5-6hrs before game and I think the shuttles do not start running until 3hrs before game, usually would not mind the walk except going to have back surgery next week and surgeon will not let me start physical therapy for 6 weeks until all healing done. It just aggravates me that someone like me who it takes working 52 hrs a week all summer to be able to purchase season tix and still the school thinks I don't donate enough to give me better parking unlike the people who donate so much they get 2 passes in G10 and then sell them at a ridiculous price

This is my first year as a donor, and I got Locust St garage as well. I'm completely unaware of how the tailgating environment is on that side of town since most of my time as a student was spent tailgating elsewhere on campus. Anyone have any tailgating recommendations? Also, the 1 mile walk isn't ideal, but I guess I can't really complain since I'm new to the process. Personally, I don't mind the walk to and from the stadium. But my old man will be going to a few games and he wants to do as little walking as possible. What are the best options for any sort of shuttle or buses to and from the stadium? TIA

I don't really know of any shuttles that go from the Locust St garage. There may be some stuff a few blocks from there though.

Depending on how early you get there and from what direction you can always drop off people on the strip and then go park yourself.

It's not a horrible walk, and depending on how you go you can avoid hills to a certain extent.

While on this topic, I will be driving in from Gatlinburg on game day. First game since 2003 and lived in Knoxville so never came from Gatlinburg. Any advice on how much time to allow to get on campus from there?

I just pulled up the map, as I'm unfamiliar with lot 40. That's a friggin long way off! Across Alcoa highway from Tyson park. Looks like the train tracks run right by it.... Maybe they will run a shuttle like they do from lot 14 (the one by the softball/soccer/sewage plant).

my friends I join for tailgating are in G10 and we start tailgating 5-6hrs before game

From University - New rules for G10 this year. Open parking only from 7=9 AM irrespective of kickoff. After that each car is directed by an employee to a space going from top to bottom of garage. No spaces in the deck open for tailgating, no 'saving' a space. If 2 want to park next to each other - they have to arrive at same time. Top level of garage will have designated drive lane required left open for cars- police -ambulance to have access.

Market Square/Old City is just off James White Parkway near the Crowne Plaza, TVA buildings etc. I think the trolley is $5 roundtrip and it starts running back out at the beginning of the 4th quarter and they run about every 10 minutes. The only issue I can think of is the walk up Phillip Fulmer Way coming out of the stadium to the bus area would be uphill for a short distance

Hey GaVol, willl there be signs that show where to park at Market Square? Great suggestion by the way. :good!:

I thought some of the movement was due to construction on campus...

I doubt this makes anyone happy. Some people like to park low to get out quickly, some prefer to set up shop for the day and night up top. Having to show up at the exact same time to join forces is ridiculous.

The one couple that sets up are tailgating he likes to arrive at 4am to be first in line but this rule about people having to be there at the same time is ridiculous since he usually gets there first and then 2 other couples come and park around him so we can spread out. The school is just getting to strict with rules. I think they should just have first come first serve parking anywhere on campus and that way those who get there early morning for a late game would get close spots if thats what they want.

I'd say that the G-10 rules were inevitable. Drunks have been spilling over into extra parking spots and the saving of spots is abused. It's been getting rowdier up there every year... big donors that just want to park and get to the skybox gate are being inconvenienced and have probably pitched a fit.

Tons of truth in this.

G10 rowdiness peaked vs UF, I believe in 2006. It was darn near a riot by the evening, with people on cars, fights, etc. Before that, there were many setups with tents over multiple spots, catered buffet-style food lines, and even a stage with a band for big games. The next week, UT sent out a letter and cracked down. It's never been the same since, thanks to drunk idiots.

I was told at Meet Your Seats today that parking was expected to be back to normal next year. If I recall correctly roughly 700 more spots would be available next year including a new garage by Stokely.

Several of you mentioned your now in Lot 40 like myself and I attempted to drive by it this morning. The road heading to it is pretty unkept and it looked like they were doing construction on the actual lot. (This could be equipment stored for the Cumberland project however.) Couldn't get real close because of a gate so I had to turn around. Not sure which route the shuttle will take this season since access to University Commons and Neyland Dr is blocked from that end. I left with very low expectations for this season... but hopefully I am wrong!

Lot 40 is a completely useless and offensive concept. Is it even in area code 865? I bet you can pick up the Nashville TV stations with a small antennae. You can pay cheaper and get far closer using private lots closer to campus.

The school just did not want to admit they were out of spaces due to construction and overselling, so they try that crap. Why not just sell parking at the new "Cherokee Campus?" It's just as close and at least you could hitch a ride from a damn boat!

If you don't have the spaces, don't overcharge for a lot that UT happens to own in freaking Loudon County and say "enjoy the game" Just say. "I'm sorry but we are out of spaces" Selling spaces in this lot is just bush league and embarrassing.

And I see they are selling spaces in the Locust Street Garage downtown. How stupid is that!?!? You can park for free at Market Square Garage and State Street Garage on the weekend!!!! These garages are nearby and actually easier to get out of.

If UT does not want the middle-class to attend football games and park anywhere near campus in their lots, then just tell them. Don't hint or beat around the bush.

I'm sure the buses for Lot 40 will come every 90mins and there will still be "fans" waiting for buses at kickoff. Your fans are not chattel to be milked every few months. If you can't park them, then quit taking their money for parking. Don't make the process a complete farce.

Any recommendations on how early we need to get to G-10 in order to get a spot on the top deck for the Oklahoma game?

Thanks in advance!
